You're Top-10 Movies/Shows based on Games

My favourites:

  1. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - Very good action.
  2. Mortal Kombat - Good action, and good soundtrack
  3. Street Fighter - Very cheesy, but very over the top.
  4. Resident Evil - Only seen the first one.
  5. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within - It was a masterpiece of animation at the time.
  6. Doom - Good sf
  7. Space 1889: The Secret of Phobos - Cheesy. Very low budget, but enjoyable. I have the DVD from the kickstarter. The full film (2:30 hours long) is available at youtube (put on subtitles, as they mix English and German)
  8. The Prince of Persia - Big budget, and good effects.
  9. DOA: Dead or Alive - an OK Martial arts film.
  10. Battleship - cheesy, high budget sf.

Have only seen the first 2 D&D-movies. And they were not so great. Plan to finish the 3rd one , and then see the latest one (which I have been told is quite good)
Oh I hadnt heard of the space 1889 movie - will need to check it ot!

Nice list, though I didnt expect anyone to list Battleship in a Top-10.

I had near forgotten about DOA - kung fu and Bikini

Well, lets' put it this way. Battleship is BAD, but it is better than the first 2 D&D-movies. The first one was ruined by the inclusion of the "comedic relief" in the form of Snails, and that the director totally misused the scenery...

I don't know if I can list 10, but I'd probably put my favorites as

1. Mortal Kombat (90s) - This movie just rocks. It's an awesome movie. Even if it wasn't based on a Video game, it would be awesome.

2. Street Fighter II (animated version) - This is actually another really great movie. Fun and sticks close to the source material in many ways. Also, banging soundtrack.

3. Battleship - Yes, I know many dislike this one, but all the navy guys I know absolutely love it for some reason. I like it too. Absolutely unrealistic in naval maneuvers and tactics, I've been told the warming the battleship up takes a day and yet the movie does it in less than an hour...etc...etc...etc, and yet, when I've watched it with them, I can't help but love the movie along with them. They get so enthusiastic about it. (Maybe it's like Rocky Horror Show, but for the navy)?

4 - Super Mario Brothers (2020s version) - This was actually a pretty decent movie as well. I think there were a lot of people out there that also liked it.

5 - Warcraft - I liked it. Can't say much else. You either like it or you don't.

6 - Prince of Persia - It's not the top of my list for obvious reasons, but if you like the movies like Pirates of Caribbean and such, there's a lot to like about this movie.

7 - Tomb Raider - This was a fun movie. Can't say it would make most of my other movie lists, but it's a fun movie to watch...once.

8. - Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life - Same would go for it's sequel, though not as good as the original. I would imagine if you like Angelina Jolie your ranking of these two would go up quite a bit. I'm not a big fan of hers though.

9 - Ready Player One - Does this one count? Not my favorite by far, but it is at least a decent movie.

10 - Dungeons and Dragons 2 - Running out of gas here. Out of all the early D&D films, this one is the only one I would count as halfway decent. I like it more than the Honor among thieves film. I may be the singular entity here, but I at least enjoy this one without cringing as much. It feels more D&D to me than the HaT movie, and I actually enjoyed it more when I saw it. All the other movies for this series (the previous D&D film and the sequels after this one) are so bad I can't even sit through them.

PS: AS for TV shows, I would not count Record of Lodoss War, although it is awesome, it's based more off of the Manga I think , which in turn was based off the homegame.

Yikes. Has there ever been a good one? Not that I can recall.
The first Mortal Kombat (1995) movie was surprisingly entertaining. Eh, but I can't look you in the eye and say it's good. I'm looking at a list of movie adaptations on Wikipedia and nothing looks good. Keeping in mind I haven't seen Detective Pikachu or the new Mario movie.

I don't even know if I could name 10 off the top of my head.

So, the Fallout TV show is amazing. That gets the #1 slot.
Legend of Vox Machina is really good, so that is #2.
I really like D&D:HAT, so I'll give that #3.
I guess Edgerunners is based on a game and it is good, so #4.
Oh, because it greatly informed my view of what dragons should be in D&D, Record of Lodoss War as #5.
I think that's it. The Witcher show is based more on the books than the game, and also is not great. The HALO series was hot garbage. The Dragonlance animated film was a crime against humanity, as were the earlier D&D films. Have I ever seen DOOM? I don't remember it if I have, which isn't a ringing endorsement.

In no particular order:

Arcane (although I thought season 2 was kinda weak.)
Castlevania, lots of OTT fun.
DADHAT was fine.
Twisted Metal. I like Anthony Mackie. And Stephanie Beatrice.
Last of Us. Personally, I hate zombie apocalypse stuff and have only watched the first 2 eps. But I acknowledge it's very good TV.
Warcraft. As I said at the time "Ya know, for a movie based on a video game, it's not crap."

Don't think I've seen many more than that.

Edit: Legend of Vox Machina is fun too.

Its not a great movie. Its fun though and its better than a few martial art flicks.

Fallout would be number 1 for me as well.

Forgot about Prince of Persia. It was kinda fun. Probably not top 5 but 10 maybe.

List for #1 was a lot longer than I expected. Tippity-top shelf? DADHAT and Super Mario Bros. Gamma World / After the Bomb, or maybe some kind of urban fantasy TEMU TMNT.

#2? Phantasy Star. Metroid. Spelljammer.

Could list a few more, but I've got specific ideas for those and they'd be better suited for pitch threads.
