Your top 5 sci-fi movies (and why)

I don't mean to single them out, that's just the industry where it comes up these days.

I work in a pharmacy, but if there was some magical appliance that could just conjure whatever pills you need out of thin air for free I'd be in favor of that too. Moreso in fact. But I fear I may be an exception.

Because this pervasive stockholm syndrome attitide toward the current state of things means that ANY technology that creates things for free out of thin air is going to be opposed by the few who currently make that thing at the expense of the many who use it. If Jesus came back today he'd be crucified by the bakers and fishermen for "pirating" their loaves and fish

EDIT:
Ultimately, I believe thag the economy should revolve around the consumer; not around investors or around workers like those other two economic philosophies. Its only purpose is to provide goods and services. Profits and employment are byproducts at best

You've now gone from saying that artists are extorting innocent people who just want free art -- which is only a "good" like any other product -- to saying anyone who doesn't agree with you has Stockholm Syndrome.

Give us a post scarcity economy, or at the very least UBI, and I might lean toward agreeing with you. A bit.

I would also not personally blame people for being freaked out by a magic box that breaks the law of conservation of mass.
No, I meant literally out of thin air. There's plenty of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nirtogen in the air to make most pharmaceuticals

A post scarcity economy has to start somewhere

This isn’t an either/or situation. I do think work is integral to living a purposeful life, but that doesn’t mean that all work is equally enriching or enriching at all - plenty of jobs are manifestly terrible.

At the same time, I am 100% on the side of Wall-E/Satan when it comes to rescuing humans from pleasurable but meaningless servitude. But I also have a tattoo of Lucifer with a quote from Paradise Lost, so I may be just slightly biased.

Mod Note:

And... with that you've shown that you're willing to use religious icons to insult people who disagree with you. You're done in this discussion.
