Who Should Gal Gadot Play In The New DCU?

Looks like I need to do some Googling …
This thread comes up when you do a Google search for Gal Gadot.
Gal Gadoogling? Why does that sound so dirty? There are no dirty words or word-components in it? What is wrong with you, brain?
You don't have to look super strong to have supernatural strength. Buffy the Vampire Slayer wasn't buff either. Or Lynda Carter for that matter. Kimberly Kane fills out the costume nicely.

Give Adrianne Paliki a chance since her show never got picked up.
Note that the original topic was what to do with Gadot, not who should be Wonder Woman. Regardless, the point of Buffy was that she looked unassuming. Lynda Carter was from a different time (when we had Christopher Reeve as Superman instead of Cavill) where the focus on secret identities was stronger (mind you, I wouldn't mind this aspect coming back).

Anyways, I think Gadot is perfectly fine at acting when she's playing a normal person doing typical acting behaviors -- information dumps, exposition, portraying a real person in semi-realistic situations (she put in a perfectly decent performance on Death on the Nile). I wouldn't place my trust in her to do a heartfelt breakup or character grieving the death of their child or something like that (and she didn't convince me she was Wonder Woman that well), but anything else would be fine.

I could see her being a flashback character (she also looks good in period piece wear) like Barbara Gordon's mother. She might be able to do a Lois Lane role (investigative reporter amongst superhumans and/or not-helpless love interest), although we already have a new Lois Lane herself.

Jason Momoa was cast as Aquaman because they wanted to try to make Aquaman "cool". It didn't work.

Momoa's natural delivery style is a far better fit for Lobo than it was for Aquaman, so that recast makes sense.

Wonder Woman, like Superman, is hard to get right, and with the tonal shift they are likely aiming for, finding a more flexible actress is probably in order.

I don't know what other role she'd actually be good at that would be worth the price tag she likely comes with.

I like her, but I don't think there's any reason to have her in the new DCU.

Mamoa is playing Lobo simply because it is the role he was born to play. Aquaman was not.

As Gadot has amply demonstrated to me in other roles (notably Death on the Nile, where you’d have thought her wooden style would work well for her as the victim) she is not a good actress. I wouldn’t cast her as anyone.

As others have noted, the Mamoa recasting was absolutely a matter of correcting a massive casting mistake in the first place for something that Mamoa is actually an insanely good choice for (say what you will about the Minecraft movie, thank you I will it was dreadful, but it was also probably the most compelling Mamoa has ever been, and it was definitely a more Lobo-adjacent role). Mamoa as Lobo makes all the sense, as much sense of James Gunn bringing Lobo to the screen in the first place, and Gunn's already displaced a willingness to play with the existence of the previous DCEU in this new one.

Gal Gadot is a terrible actress, first and foremost, all other potential controversies aside (she also got the biggest flak from being the one to create and share that absolutely dreadful "Imagine" video during the pandemic. Did you know Natalie Portman was in that travesty? So was Pedro Pascal!). She cannot act. Now, and this is the trick few people are willing to acknowledge, sometimes being a terrible actor is a good thing. There's a certain type of character it kind of works for (think David Boreanaz in the first season of Buffy). This is why I think, by and large, her first movie ended up doing well (beyond her looking perfect for the part, Chris Pine, low-key the best Chris, doing everything he can to salvage it, and the general vibes in the world kind of needing it to have been a good movie, I'd like to think with the value of hindsight that we can admit that it was actually pretty bad). But in general, yeah, she's a terrible actress. Don't cast her in things.

Ezra Miller comes with their own massive can of worms, so they're also out. Cavill definitely isn't coming back, and honestly good for him. I could see Ben showing up again in some minor role, at least. Maybe some supporting cast, like Irons or Fishbourne might pop up again. And if we're very, very lucky, we will not see Jared Leto on screen ever again.

I wouldn't mind him playing murder victims...

While I basically think Johnny Depp should never get work again, I thought Branagh casting him as the @$$hole victim in Murder on the Orient Express was perfect.

The choice is up to Gunn, of course, but who would you keep as cast from the pre-Gunn DCU films? I’m guessing Robbie gets to be Quinn if she wants to be, and of course Cena will carry on, but Xolo Mariduena absolutely nailed it as Blue Beetle as well.
