D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on New Bladesinger?

I think Wisdom proficiency is a lot more valuable than Constitution or Dexterity. This is especially true since a Bladesinger is probably dumping Wisdom (unless you are mutliclassing to Ranger).

I realize that Constitution is what is used for concentration checks, but those are usually easy saves, if you are concentrating you are probably not getting hit a lot anyhow and with Bladesong and Warcaster you have bonuses to those.

A failed wisdom save on the other hand will often incapacitate you and make you lose concentration anyway.



Paladin is a really hard multiclass for a Bladesinger. On point buy you need to dump Constitution to do this effectively. There are builds out there - a Half Orc or Dwarf with Tough Feat comes to mind.

Pakadin dips rough. Also be tempted by that second level for smites.

Unless your DM is that much of a stickler, your Blade Cantrips are still backwards compatible.

My bladesinger works fine, I have the relevant books but they have not undated the relevant spells in the new Realms books (and they were SCAG spells to begin with) so new players will not have or know about them.

This. I haven't seen most people use those cantrips irl. A few own tashas. True strikes also new.

A good gish build is complicated. 2 of us know how 1 of them is me.

You can't do it 6 times a day as a single class Wizard until quite a while after level 20. That requires a 22 Intelligence, which would mean 2 Epic Boons.

For most of tier 1 and tier 2 on point buy you will be at 3 or 4 uses on a point buy Wizard.

You . . . may wish to read up on the 5e24 Bladesong ability. It is not the same as the 2014 version.

For most Bladesingers, on most days, you will have 4-6 uses of Bladesong.

Like every incarnation of bladesinger, and any other class granting a second attack to a full caster, I disagree with the design. No full caster should get multi-attack.

It invalidates the EK IMO, but that ship sailed.

I'm struggling to see 2024 Bladesinger invalidating 2024 EK.

Weapon Masteries, Second Wind, Fighting Style, Extra Feat, Indomitable, 3rd extra attack, etc.

Like you build out a level 6 or 7 Bladesinger to use in melee and i'll build out a level 6 or 7 EK. I expect that when everything the EK gets is taken into account that it's going to be hard to call the melee bladesinger actually better at melee.

Easier than Paladin. Its doable. Worth it? Idk. Maybe level 7?

Trade off is 14 dex vs 16.

Might tank better until it runs out of spells. Probably wont beat it on damage.

As DM who cares ignore it? Dancing fool blow all your spells to be a mediocre fighter. Even if youre allowed 5.0 ones.

The Bladesinger, is not going to compete with a melee class character in their area of speciality but that is not the point. They are pretty good at melee but still a full class caster.
