D&D 5E (2024) Lorwyn: First Light has been released

That's possible, and I didn't want to get too deep into that because I don't know how they have the profit sharing arrangement with MHP. Based on the fact WotC sold the Tortle Package on DMs guild for $10 and on D&D Beyond for the same price makes me think that, but that was before D&DB was fully owned by Hasbro.
That was also before a lot of inflation.

Took this screen shot of a reddit ad that is so insanely misleading as to be fraudulent IMHO, its suggests Lorwyn is apart of the Forgotten Realms. Did anyone in the marketing department actually read the DLC? I like Lorwyn but this is just plain wrong, it's have been one thing if it had mentioned as a Domain of Delight or even Moonshae Isles or Faerun or Forgotten Realms where mentioned ANYWHERE in the DLC, but they aren't. The only part that mentions the Feywild is the habitat section of some of the monster stats (which ironically just makes the lore they provided more confusing because the Blind Eternities are clearly the assumed history and cosmology, and those don't have a feywild, what a mess). It also shows utter contempt for Lorwyn's ability to sell itself outside the card game. They had zero faith in this product

I expect this is is true, and what WotC's market research told them. Even many MtG players aren’t particularly interested in lore, and this one doesn’t seem to be a particularly popular setting, and mechanically complecated. Hence WotC axed the boxed set they originally had planned in favour of Dark Sun, something there is clearly a much higher demand for.

Rather than throw it away as they usually do for axed projects, they decided to put out what they had as part of their “DLC” experiment.

Lorwyns fairly popular MtG set.

I played it years ago and next set is Lorwyn for the second or 3rd revisit.

That puts it near Ravnica in terms of popularity.

I remember Lorwyn-Eveningtide-Shadowmoore block. That was almost 20 years ago.
So probably 2nd most popular set if not top 5 not 100% sure.

Was fairly popular. Remember WotC has up to date market research on MtG, and I have noticed a significant demographic shift amongst players recently.

Also, remember MtG is first and foremost a game that players want to win. Often sets are popular because players like the unique mechanics, not because they like the lore. For some the lore about as interesting as Colonel Mustard's regimental history, or what breed of terrier the Monopoly dog is.

Next set outs Lorwyn. February iirc.

Yeah, very delayed. The original plan was to bring the D&D set out at the same time (there were leaks).

My sense is that WotC have rather lost confidence in the ability of the MtG multiverse and Planeswalker metaplot to sell cards, and are casting around for other options.

Shrugs. Haven't looked at magic since 2010.
One of my D&D players is quite well connected in MtG circles, they are my main source of gos.
I ask occasionally at flgs about it. Theyre not fans of Spiderman for some reason.
Yeah, MtG is flagging, and WotC are thrashing about trying to figure out how to reinvigorate it. Like D&D, their print costs are rising rapidly, but they don’t have enough popularity to significantly increase the sale price.

One of the issues is their core age for players (excluding proto-grogs like my friend) is early teens. And one of the things about that age group (teacher experience) is their culture changes very quickly. What was cool 5 years ago is embarrassing now.

The MCU is another dad-franchise. Not even the amazing Spiderman can save the day.

I would send for the K-Pop Demon Hunters.
