D&D 5E (2024) WotC Should Make 5.5E Specific Setting

D&D has not fully escape humanocentrism.

It's not Gygaxian humanocentrism though. Humans don't dominate because of Human potential dominated the demihumans in decline.

It's straight up laziness or ignorance.

Running a dragonborn, elf, dwarf, or orc is easier. Not better. Just lower mental load.

Which is fine. Unless forced. Which is my issue.
Because not only is the setting not given, the variant rules to convert monsters aren't.

I had to go back and create a Damage/HP per CR chart.
What is laziness or ignorance?

Only sort of. One type of elf was like that, and the other major type was specifically not like that and got along great with other races.
Unfortunately the Elf cultures that I prefer because of their skyey high magic - Sun, Astral, and to some degree Grey and 4e Eladrin - are the ones that get ruined by racist ick.

I prefer the racist tropes gone.

The feat or no feat, though, is called out in 5e in the PHB. The breath weapon for Dragonborn on the other hand is listed as an absolute defining trait of the race. No other subraces of Dragonborn that don't have a breath weapon are even hinted at. The DM is of course free to make Dragonborn with no breath weapon, but that's not the default assumption of 5e or 5.5e.
Dragonborn NPCs without breath weapons are the default according to the 2024 Monster Manual. Dragonborn NPCs use the same stat blocks as human NPCs, without any of the modifications which were mentioned in the 2014 rules.

Personally, I don't agree with that design choice, but it remains the default rule in 2024.

If you are treating a 6-ft elementally charged dragon person like a human, you are doing so out of ease or ignorance.
Unfortunately, there is no real way to know how an actual Dragonborn thinks and behaves compared to a human. Each player who plays as a Dragonborn can only do their best at portraying them. And no two players will role-play a Dragonborn in quite the same way.
