The World Happiness Report says Canadians under 30 were the happiest age group in the country as recently as 2011.

Now, they're the unhappiest.

The 2024 edition of the decades-long study of global happiness, published by the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford, asked participants to picture their life as a ladder, with the best possible life at 10 and the worst at zero.

While many countries among the 134 covered by the research have also seen happiness levels fall among those under 30 since 2006, the slide of young Canadians down the ladder is exceptional.

Only four countries have seen a worse decline — Jordan, Venezuela, Lebanon and Afghanistan.

Probably not the day for me to reading things like this, but yikes if thats just not one more data point in a sea of them over the last decade.

TIL how to dial your phone
The preceding letters being the reason why, in old movies, the caller would have told the operator something like "Maitland 29970 please." The first two letters of the word were the letters in the phone number.

We had pulse dialing well past the advent of tone dialing because the phone company, here, charged an additional $5/month for tone. We held out until tone dialing was free then got ourselves a tone dial phone. This is what we had until then. It would have been maybe 1979.

From listening to older family talk, when you're on a party line and you hear someone else talking you're actually supposed to cover the receiver with your hand and eavesdrop.
We were never on a party line but occasionally, in the old analogue days, we would pick up the phone and immediately hear someone else having a conversation.
