Shadowdark Shadowdark General Thread [+]

Maybe it's a curse? Perhaps one that derives from humans falling into cannibalism?
That's what I was thinking.

I saw the X-Files episode "Home" when it originally aired, despite not being a regular X-Files viewer (too many mythology episodes for my tastes) and, like a lot of people, it made an impression on me.

I was thinking that the werehogs would be something like that. Having the condition be the result of a curse is good. I should probably stop calling them lycanthropes and figure out something better.

Basically, they're big cannibal hillbillies who can turn into giant carnivorous hog hybrids.

Throughout this campaign, the player characters have come upon scenes where larger-than-normal human footprints walk off from sites where other travelers or homesteaders have vanished. So the players know something bad is coming.

I knew it!

Anyone know when/if shadowdark is getting a full UK release?

Can only seem to purchase it directly from the arcane library and shipping is prohibitively expensive

Following up - if you can get to these stores in person then you can pick up a copy but beware as both have restricted opening hours.

As I prep these monsters for today's game, I'm having trouble coming up with a name for them that I like. Calling them "gorgers" for the moment, but that's not really doing it for me.

In addition to changing their vulnerability to pig iron, I'm also going to have their transformation trigger when they eat human flesh. Don't eat any of the jerky this family offers you.

I like to look at words in other languages to get inspirations for names, and "swine" in dutch is "varken" which sounds suitably monstrous.

Very basic write-up for today. I anticipate today's adventure is roleplay, followed by an encounter with one of these folks, which they won't have the ability to harm, and running away and coming back at another time, better armed and prepared. So I only need a rough draft for today's encounter.

GORGER
Cursed individuals who live off consuming the flesh of their fellow men and women, who now transform into monstrous hybrid hog men when they consume human flesh.
AC 12, HP 14, ATK 2 tusk +3 (1d6), MV near, S +3, D +0, C +1, I -2, W +1, Ch -2, AL C, LV 3
Impervious. Only damaged by pig iron or magic sources.

Since they transform into a hybrid form, does one tusk and one weapon attack make sense? Otherwise, I like.
