[Adventure] The Cannith Caper (Judge: THB)

The dragon stares coldly, not betraying any emotion (if the creature even can).

[sblock=OOC]

I know. I talked to R1 off screen and he seemed alright with the idea of running these guys off somewhere, PVP excepted and judges allowing.

I'm with everyone else on this one in the PVP field. That's the last thing I want. I'd like to see the OOC discussion decide if Mal's action can still happen without it leading to PVP. (meaning the turning sides, not just the statement.)

I was thinking that the betrayal might lead to the reappearance of the wizard who brought us in. He steals you all away to regroup. Maybe?

He probably wants us as test subjects, true. Won't know 'til we get there. I'd rather keep people happy OOC than take the action I just did IC, though. We may never know.

SG, I know you were planning on retiring Haltor at the end of this adventure and I'd really not like to slow you down on that one. Well, I think you were planning that. You had mentioned a new PC.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]
FWIW, the dragon is a she-construct. I would have an out for those not wanting to serve the dragon... for sure Haltor and Deimos currently. [/sblock]

[sblock=edit: OOC]I do thikn it could lead to interesting times with the betrayers attempting to complete some quest or another while the remainder of the party + reinforcements attempts again to kill the dragon. Nice dichotomy there. Probably too complicated for PbP though.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]
To be honest, this would actually be much better in PbP as normally splitting up means 1/2 the group sits on their hands while the other half games and vice versa. Not as likely here. This may or may not be what I was thinking when I mentioned something to twilsemail ... after all Cannith would certainly want this thing destroyed, or even better, captured for their own purposes. Anyone has quesitons either PM me or email which is my username at gmail.[/sblock]

Tock takes a position with his back against the wall of the forge, he nods agreement with Mal's words, though at this point the gesture is out of sight of most of the room.

[sblock=ooc]Tock is with Mal on this one, and very much not in favor of PvP. He's going to see how the conversation goes IC before speaking up.. wouldn't do to ruin a perfectly good chance to hide.

Is everyone ok with a)'having an out', or b)'joining the winning team'? If not, we could seque the argument directly into fighting the dragon, making us possibly the least impressive heroes ever. ;) [/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]So, what next, r1? We have two that want to kill the dragon/don't want to join it. Two that don't want to kill it/want to join it. A few non voters (though I think Braddock is on Team Haltor and Talos on Team Mal; Garak is a non-voting member of Team Haltor probably). Seems like we are a bit of an impasse.

If we go for the split, there will likely need to be some Deus Ex Machina that separates the parties for Haltor has not been convinced to retreat (or the other three have to agree not to defend the dragon so it will be dragon vs the other three/four [and hopefully adjusted, natch]). That latter option, of course, raises the issue of XP (as per the DMG, the three standing it out would be eligible for none, having not faced a challenge).

If the party is split by some means preventing attacking the dragon, then it just becomes a "escape the dungeon" quest for Team Haltor and a sit around and wait (?) quest for Team Mal. Could be done, but wouldn't take long unless r1 throws some random combat there (and I can think of a few, but I don't want to give him ideas ;)).

I'll try to make this clear so we can get to gaming instead of talking about gaming:
- Haltor wants this thing dead for what it has done. He's willing to attack it regardless (he's a Bravura Warlord, afterall)
- Haltor does not want to fight Mal, but will if attacked.
- stonegod doesn't want PvP
- stonegod wants to move this to a conclusion one way or the other. There's a revenant knight from Karrnath with my name on it. I'm fine with (1) attack dragon and Team Mal watches or (2) being forced to retreat. (2) is probably faster, though worth less XP [though any past the level threshold will be wasted on my new PC].[/sblock]

[sblock=more talking about talking about gaming :)] Braddock is not going to join a mechanical dragon with plans of conquering the continent and bringing goblinoids back to power. I am enjoying the discussion though :D. [/sblock]

Braddock makes a loud hacking sound and spits a large amount of spittle on the ground, "This damn thing needs to end now. And I'm not talking about this discussion."

He gives Mal a hard look.

"I'm talking about that thing," He points his craghammer at the dragon.

OOC: Talos is definitely on Team Mal. He's a minotaur, mercenary work is in his blood. And he mostly just wants a good story to tell, and that will give him one.

[sblock=OOC]How do people (mostly "Team Haltor") feel about either a deus ex machina or retreat? I'm still cool with ret-conning if it's what should happen.

Perhaps R1 can write up an epic chase scene out of the facility, skill challenge style, to make up for the lack of a boss fight (XP wise)?[/sblock]

[/sblock][/sblock][sblock=OOC]I'm okay with it (but Haltor will probably only retreat if he can't fight the dragon so a d.e.m is likely required for him).[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]I'm okay with it and Deimos has no problems with a strategic retreat. He will only be a bit sad leaving Mal and the others as enemies. And I think he hasn't the right abilities to survive a chase, but maybe I'm lucky (I want to keep this character)![/sblock]

[sblock=ooc] I'm for killing the dragon. However, if Team Mal wants to join the dragon, that isn't exactly fair to them... So whatever r1 decides is fine. [/sblock]

I sent the judges a note about this and already have something from one of them. I have a fairly easy out for Team Mal/Merc if we need that will also allow Team Haltor to accomplish their mission. [/sblock]
