D&D General why do we not have an arcane half caster?

Then I'll step up and tell them to try 4e out for themselves to see what the think of it. It wasn't exactly my favorite edition but there were things I liked about it. "No, because 4e" isn't much of an argument against any mechanic. ;-) The point is, however, that I can say I draw my magic...

D&D General why do we not have an arcane half caster?

I think that's a matter of perception. I see the sorcerer as an alternative to the wizard for players who want that alternative. The similarities in the spells doesn't bother me because the distinctions are made in other ways, and that's not different than the similarities with a fighter and...

D&D General why do we not have an arcane half caster?

It's in the PHB under monk. First 3 sentences under "The Magic of Ki". ;)

D&D General why do we not have an arcane half caster?

Monks study the magic of ki, which is a magical energy that suffuses the multiverse. Elements monks use that energy to cast spells. It's not internal according to the write up in the PHB. The explanation of divine vs arcane is whether or not magic use has indirect direct access. Monks have...

D&D General why do we not have an arcane half caster?

Pffft...... play a valor bard and build it for whatever weapon. :) Rangers are divine casters. Arcane casters: arcane trickster, artificer, bard, eldritch knight, sorcerer, warlock, wizard Divine casters: cleric, druid, paladin, ranger. Spellcasting monks (like Wo4E) are not listed among...

Level Up (A5E) What would you call a 'Warlord' class? (+)

It was the plan for Jon Snow to lead the watch and why he was mad a steward. Use him for some inspiration for the class. If I were a designer I'd probably be brainstorming GoT for some ideas here to take advantage of the pop culture and apply it.

Level Up (A5E) What would you call a 'Warlord' class? (+)

Steward as in "the Steward of Gondor". The name lacks baggage and by old school definition relates to leading and protecting people and places.

D&D 5E Heavily used skill proficiencies

I use all 3 regularly. Medicine with the forensics checks that published adventures use have caused me to also use them, perform to create friendly environments or making contacts or influencing how 3rd parties might be viewed by NPC's, or controlling mounts and pets with animal handling...

D&D General Name your favorite 4 person party composition.

This looks like tradition bias to me. The arcane / divine difference is pretty marginal in 5e, and skills are easy enough to pick up regardless of class. It's pretty easy to apply a druid to the traditional arcane role, bards are arcane casters but fit the support role of the divine casters...

D&D 5E Does the Artificer Suck?

I think we generally answered the original question that artificers do not suck. At low levels the infusions are good and at high levels the SSI is good.

D&D 5E So Where my Witches at?

How I do it. Off topic, but I was in an 11 person group back in 2e. Biggest I've been in iirc.

D&D 5E Does the Artificer Suck?

I think you're overthinking it. The artificer stores a spell in the SSI. How the creature activates that spell's effect is irrelevant. The spell effects all use a standard set of rules in chapter 10 of the PHB. Those are in effect until a specific change is given such as applying the...

D&D 5E Does the Artificer Suck?

No, one is right back to applying the resolution using the rules I quoted above. SSI dictates the ability score. The spell effect dictates how to use the ability score and uses the rules I quoted as part of the effect. It's still exactly the same spell effect regardless of the type of action...

D&D 5E Does the Artificer Suck?

It is clear because this already came up in Sage Advice. SSI specifically uses the "use an item" action. It works with fast hands.
