D&D 5E How do you RP material components for divine casters?

In my current game, my character is multiclassing to druid. His story is such that he really doesn't have a druid mentor. He prays to Deneir for knowledge and guidance, but in the setting in which we're playing (Faerun during the spell plague) Deneir is a little... tied up and can't really...

D&D 5E How do you RP material components for divine casters?

I'm curious how you all handle a character learning about and acquiring expensive spell components for divine casters (or any casters other than wizards... and bards and artificers I guess?) For a wizard it's obvious. Their spellcasting ability is a science. They learn a formula that someone...

D&D 5E Ability Score Increases (I've changed my mind.)

That sounds fine. I'm not averse to having an odd stat ever. I like some of the half feats and plan to take a couple of them. But i don't ever really want anything more than 14 in dex for this build, so that starting 15 would have been a wasted point for my entire career.

D&D 5E Ability Score Increases (I've changed my mind.)

I'll catch up on the rest of the thread as I'm able to, but in the meantime... I don't know if it's been mentioned, but one nice thing about ASI flexibility is just the opportunity to have even ability scores instead of odd. I rolled stats for my stout halfling druid and would have had 15 dex...

D&D 5E Can your Druids wear metal armor?

    Or they intentionally didn't.

D&D 5E Can your Druids wear metal armor?

You haven't explained yet why "forces of nature" must be akin to a god to which one gives devotion and prays for intercesssion and not a "force" that can be understood, revered, and channeled. In other words, I think that just saying that druidic power requires religious devotion is begging the...

D&D 5E Can your Druids wear metal armor?

Deific: Resembling a god in qualities such as power or beauty; divine. Re: Use of square brackets, you seem to just be using them as an attempt to preemptively head off a valid criticism of your point of view by applying your own interpretation of the meaning of "the force of nature."

D&D 5E Can your Druids wear metal armor?

My druid currently is shaping up to be much more like a "natural wizard" in this fashion, rather than a "priest of nature" as a lot of others conceive of the druid. He does pray to Deneir for knowledge and guidance (as an Arcana cleric), but he is acquiring most of his druidic power by learning...

D&D 5E Can your Druids wear metal armor?

It is happening in my game now. I started with a level in cleric and scale mail. I'm intending to make my character a melee-focused caster so AC matters more to my build than it would to a typical battle field control type druid who can put up a big concentration spell and retreat to safety. I...

D&D 5E Can your Druids wear metal armor?

I think most everyone in this thread would agree with all of this. I think most would also feel like it was a weird hill to die on.

D&D 5E Can your Druids wear metal armor?

But what if everything was shifted around a little. Like, what if (bear with me, this is still a contrived and spur of the moment example) the mission is to close an interdimensional portal that the bbeg intended to use to bring about the end of the world. The portal emits energy that would kill...

D&D 5E Can your Druids wear metal armor?

This goes to exactly what I was saying. It's surprising to me that there were modules with this kind of binary choice written in. It's supposed to be role playing not a choose-your-own-adventure book. I think moral dilemmas are interesting. Especially if a player is creative enough to come up...

D&D 5E Can your Druids wear metal armor?

Respectfully, my take away from the story is that you had a DM that let you play your character the way you wanted to even though it was inconvenient for the material he was running. That's a cool DM. (I also wonder how it was that there were only two choices. There's clearly more to the story...
