I started with the white box and Greyhawk etc back in 1977 and enjoyed the concept, but not really the game. We played a little of 1 E AD&D, and then switched to other games, and did not play DND again until about 7 years ago when my oldest son and his wife needed more players for their game. I...
I remember playing Melee and then Wizard before they became the Fantasy Trip. I also played the original versions of Tunnels and Trolls and Monsters! Monsters! You have some good old school games on your list!
Our group is currently playing 2024 5E; 3 of us alternate as Adventurers League DMS out our FLGS. We have a group of regular players, and are just finishing up a Campaign. We will be playing Cyberpunk for a brief period as a few people take vacation, and then will return to 2024 5E. However, I...
This was a fun little one book space opera game from the late 70s designed by some of the people who later designed Bushido. Daredevils, and Aftermath! While the later 3 all used the same basic system, Space Quest followed the D&D book of character classes and levels but also had a rudimentary...
I would be interested in some history of the third party supplements that popped up almost immediately, most of them not sanctioned by TSR. We routinely used the Arduin Grimoire, Warlock and Warlock’s Tower (Cal Tech’s house rules) and others along side the white box and its supplements.
Paraphrasing William Shatner on the famous old SNL skit..."It's just..a..GAME.."
Also, why should we assume another D20 based system is the superior option to replace 5E?
I stopped playing D&D with First Edition AD&D, and although I kept playing other games in the intervening years, I did not play again until my Adult son started a 5E game. After Covid ended, I joined the AL games at my local store, and have been DMing a group the last 2.5 years.
The first...
I downloaded my copy of the backer kit rules today, and read most of the rule book (have not started the Bestiary). The mechanics look interesting but I hate the character class/archetype names. They are so jargon like and so atypical terms for heroic fantasy that it interferes with my sense of...
I am running a Thrikreen Swarmkeeper ranger in our local game stores adventure league game. I did the dex build, so with shield a high ac was there from the start. I choose archery as the fighting style; after Tier 1, I multiclassed into rogue for a few levels, and then back to Ranger. The...
I sure do. I was just going through my old games and also Warlock's Tower. There were a lot of fun alternates to AD&D and OD&D back in the day that you could plug and play into your game. We used bits from Arduin (mainly some races like the Phraint, Magic Items and of course the critical hit and...
Almost never, as I mainly DM Adventurers' League at the LFNGS. I have started a second game outside of AL with some regulars that always play at my AL table, and I am using all Keith Baker's stuff since it is an Eberron Campaign. I am open to other 3pp if it makes sense and also will allow the...
Swordpath to Glory by the same company, with a similar system, extremely complicated (not mathematically complex but way too many steps) ways of calculating wound value (the effect of strikes--there were no hit points) and resolutions of skills. I still have the first book and just the steps...
Your's are my favorite write ups on the site. I have been checking every few weeks since your last post hoping they were back! Love it and thanks for sharing your game with us!
