D&D 5E Should martial characters be mundane or supernatural?

For some reason, it seems perfectly reasonable to me that a tomb raider rogue might be an expert in arcana. If one plans to scout in areas loaded with ancient magical effects, best to know what one's gotten themselves into.

D&D (2024) Playtest 7 survey is now live.

Just a reminder that the survey closes on October 5th. Not sure if that means end Wednesday night or still open through Thursday, so if you want to get your opinions in, do so as soon as possible!

    D&D 5E [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

I really like the idea of recharge on use of second wind. That would certainly help solve the Only One Encounter Per Day long rest vs short rest imbalance.

    D&D 5E [+] Ways to fix the caster / non-caster gap

I would do several things to close the gap. To start with, I would have something called Martial Ability that classes could get. To calculate, just use the multi-class calculations to find out the character's spellcasting level for spell slots, subtract that from the total character levels, and...

    D&D (2024) Limiting Short Rests to 2x/day

I think if the assumed thing is that 2 short rests are needed per long rest, there needs to at least be the option of 4 short rests per day. Otherwise, long rest classes will shine on 1 encounter days, and 2 encounter days, but then break even on longer days, no matter how long. Short rest...

D&D (2024) High tier Fighter − the mythic warrior

Shouldn't there be ranged dpr and melee dpr? Eldritch blast is ranged.

D&D (2024) How long should a Short rest be in 5E(2024)?

1 action, but limited to 2 per day. That way if all you play is one big encounter per day, there is an option to allow for recharging during the battle so you can keep up with the LR classes. If instead it is a bunch of encounters, choose when to recharge between encounters so you don't lose an...

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

Just saw it, and to my utter surprise, I absolutely loved it. Basically just wanted a day out with family and that was what was playing at our favorite theater, so that's what we watched. I had low expectations, to be honest, and hoped for just okay. But it was great. I rank the movies 1, 5, 3...

D&D 2E Looking For Simpler Rogue for D&D2e/Chromatic Dungeon Campaign

I really like this. That gets it down to a manageable five skills. Chromatic Dungeons uses ability checks. It is otherwise a lot like the 2e Thief, but for some reason adds more skills instead of consolidating them. I really hate all clutter of trying to cram too many things onto a character...

D&D 2E Looking For Simpler Rogue for D&D2e/Chromatic Dungeon Campaign

I have never heard of this before. Interesting idea. I think I will try the consolidating skills idea instead, but I really liked hearing about this (new-to-me) method. Stealth and Mechanics(?) will roll two skills into the rest. Pick Pockets could be rolled into stealth, too. Hear Noise could...

D&D 2E Looking For Simpler Rogue for D&D2e/Chromatic Dungeon Campaign

Thank you for the suggestions. I suppose just consolidating some of the skills would be the most straight forward fix.

D&D 2E Looking For Simpler Rogue for D&D2e/Chromatic Dungeon Campaign

There are just too many thief skills to cram onto a character sheet. Does anyone have a streamlined design for the thief class?

D&D (2024) Jeremy Crawford Gives an Overview of the New Unearthed Arcana

Just a reminder that the survey is open until June 7th. Pretty sure that means it will end at midnight tonight.

D&D (2024) Do you actually like weapon masteries?

No you are right, I think I misread the argument. I'm just hung up on flex not increasing the damage versatile weapons do when used two handed. Flex should increase both, and I have no idea why it doesn't.
