Oh, I got it! Illegal hunting "preserve"! Big, wild, nasty non-native animals. Guns. Enforced isolation.

Regarding the teaser for next week,

Am I the only one thinking Danielle finds the survivors, notices Claire is pregnant, and tries to take her baby?

Regarding the polar bear and the elephant... considering that everything else so far has had relatively mundane explanations, I'm kind of expecting the animals to have come from some plane or ship carrying them... maybe transporting for a circus, or to/from a zoo in the area.

She said Alex is her CHILD. Non-gender.

Many people think of animals as their children as well. No way to know for sure - yet!

Could the "monster" be her child? SOme sort of "Island of Dr. Moreau" type experiment? Is that why she said there were no monsters?

The boat she was on was 3 days out of Tahiti. That means essentially nothing as they were shipwrecked and their instruments were shot, not to mention the storm. That '3 days out' deal is just a brief point of reference and is just as helpful as 'the plane left for the US coming from Australia.'

Other stuff:

- I, too, thought I saw an elephant's trunk.

- Danielle was positively creepy, especially with the cooky lighting. She freaked me out. Not easy to do. I love it when a book/movie/play/show can pull it off.

- Sayid's backstory was par for the course. Good stuff.

- Sawyer and Kate getting along so well bugs the crap outta me. Ick.

- Sayid's questioning of Danielle in reference to the black rock and the others was the best part of the ep. His frantic questions were just like any audience member. Tell me more, tell me more!

Damn ABC for making us wait 2 weeks for more.

Mira is from Yugoslavia. Croatia if you want to be specific, but she left as Yugoslavia was disintegrating.
