Massive Miniature Reorganization

That's how I sort my DDM:

I got a big toolbox where the huges are in, as well as misc stuff (counters, dice, markers for activation). Looks like this

The rest is in boxes like this one, sorted by faction. Within faction, they're sorted by class, archetype, race, monster type, whatever seems appropriate or fits.

Wow...I must be weird. Normally, I'm much more organizey than this...

My minis are divvied up among factions...LG, CG, LE, CE, and Multiple, along with Huge minis. The Good faction is in a plastic bag in a box. CE is in a Giants of Legend box inside the same box, and LE performs yeoman service in taking up the rest of the box. The Huge minis and multi-faction minis are in a box of their own, along with terrain. The two boxes are in the cabinet above the desk where I'm typing this out. No, I don't use them very often.

I do, however, keep a spreadsheet with names and numbers, and also keep the cards in alpha order in little baggies.

I take it you don't have over a thousand of these minis then?

Me, too, in addition to the online list at maxminis.com (which can be imported into the KB warband generator). The list has name, number, cost, faction (I think that's it). and sums up numbers and total point cost (22307 at the moment). I also track set completion by set, rarity and faction there (though that was more of an issue when I was chasing down stuff from the first 4 sets, especially harbinger, which was OOP at that point)

I have the cards in card sleeves and store them in deck boxes (the cards are the same size as your average TCG cards), although this was so I could write sleeves to mark HP and spells, before I used warband sheets from the warband generator (which contains all the stats)

Lessee...341 at last count. The sad part is I haven't done anything with them yet...I've used the DM's minis every time we've used them.

Ah, mine just lists mini and number. I haven't gotten around to updating it with other information, since it's unlikely I'd need to.

One of these days, I'm going to organize my M:tG cards for selling, and that's enough to make me cry.

Between 1500 and 2000 of them, I think. However, I have only about 70 of Deathknell - only 6 boosters and some individually bought commons. Lack of money and no boosters in Ballarat on the rare occasions I have had money...

I'm still lacking uncommons/rares from Aberrations as well, for the same reason.

Cheers!

You will probably find that most people use the minis for the RPG as opposed to the miniatures game.

I wouldn't be to quick to say that, though I generally agree. There are a several shops here in Missouri that have regular D&D Minis tournaments and lauch parties for each new set. I know of several newcomers to D&D that got into it via the minis game. While I still think that the majority of people are using them for RPG sessions, the actual minis game seems to be going pretty strong. At least in my neck of the woods and the outlying areas.

Hey guys!
First off: I'm hooked to the plastic crack that is D&D minis! I can't help myself.
I probably own about 1000 of the buggers (2 sets of harbinger, dragoneye, archfiends, 1 set of giants of legend, abberations, deathknell plus loads of extras). Ooooh it's sooo fun!
Anyway, I've dabbled a bit in the skirmish game, but mostly I use them for roleplaying and as such have organized them to best aid me in running my games.
I've separated them into the followng general categories:
Monsters
Monstrous Races
Animal/Beasts
Demons/Devils
Undead
PC Races (arranged into classes for humans, and races for elves dwarves etc., NPC baddies are also storred here)

All the storage containers I use were purchased at Wal Mart (they are very cheap).
The majority of the large/medium/small/tiny minis are kept in the "Bait Box" made by Keter item # 17331431. Each box has 4 removable trays with separators that you can set place yourself (see photos). THey have a handle for carrying and are wall mountable. I love em! The cool thing is as your collection grows you can just buy another bait box and add it to the stack. I lable the individual trays with the types of creatures inside. For games away from home, I just load the most popular monster and races trays into an empty carrier and away I go.

For the very few awkwardly shaped large monsters that don't fit in the trays, I have separate compartments in these 3 shelf units also purchased from Wal Mart made by Sterilite item #2013.
These larges are separated into the following general categories:
Large Giants
Large Dragons
Large Demons/Devils
Large Assorted
I also include a tray with one of every single possible PC mini that I let players choose from.
(see photos)

I store my Huges/Gargantuan/Collosals in a big plastic bin also purchased at Wal-Mart. (see photo)

I keep a binder with one of every stat card from each set, separated by sets. (see photo). Extra cards are storred in a box somewhere.

For fun I'll include photos of my book collection (I'm sorry if I'm being annoying. I'm just a bit keen to share the photos).

I'll also include a photo of my gaming set up. Currently I'm running the World's Largest Dungeon. I print out poster size maps of each level (minus the secrets) and get them laminated. Then I pen over the maps with dry erase marker. As the players advance I erase the corridors and rooms with an eraser (cheaper than a projector) :)
I also print out a mini map that has all the secrets on it that I keep notes on. (see photo).

If I can't fit all the photos in one post, I'll separate them into multiple posts.

Tell me what you think.
Yours,
Sam
