How do you store and tote your D&D minis?

I store mine in cookie tins and in those hard Ziploc or Glad containers. If I'm taking the show on the road, I have a couple single layer Plano type boxes, but usually only need one.

A question, just out of genuine curiosity: Why the need to take hundreds of minis to a game? I could never DM that many encounters in a night. Sure , if you're playing Warhammer or some game where you need armies, but for D&D? I mean, if its just to show off your minis, I can dig that. :) But I'm curious.

Alas, now I've discovered painting my own pewter, transport for minis is getting a little more complicated. That's the ONE thing I hate about doing my own.

I never seem to be able to pick what my group will take their time on and what they'll speed through so I like to have several extra encounters worth, just in case. I also use random encounter tables so I need to have all those possibilities covered as well.

Basically an 800 count box used for sports cards. i label the ends as to the type of critter that is in it (ie orcs & goblinoids, dragons, giants etc)and they sit on a little shelf on my china cabinet. i have 18 of the boxes and they hold everything (approximately 1000 minis) except the huges which I have stored in a much larger 'white box' with a lid. I really love these boxes as i can also make up a quikc 'battle box' to take with me to games not at my house.

How do you store and carry your D&D-brand plastic minis?
I found an empty kitty-litter bucket made out of clear plastic, peeled off the stickers and put mine in there. Insided, I further separating them into plastic bags labeled things like "critters," "orcs," "kobold," "aquatics" and so on.
All in all, it's easy to carry, but it still looks like a bucket of kitty litter.

I do the same thing but with a big tupperware tub.

Snapware containers. I use one (almost) for each creature type (with thematically similar minis, such as undead and aberrations, in the same case). Snapware is sold at Target, and online.

This is how I store figures. Each drawer is listed as creature type. Aberrations, Animals:Dire, Animals: non-Dire, Aspects etc.... Makes it easy to find stuff. On the rare occation I have to take figures somewhere else I use anything from a tuberware box to a tool box to even a basecard storage box. Depends on sizes and quanities of figures.

I use a giant tackle box which I carry on a dolly. I have 7 full sets plus duplicates of most commons and a handful of others from the other 4 sets.

I have since expanded the box system to 5 high and currently 8 wide. I have another 8 boxes bought to be used. Below are the large grey Chessex storage boxes. I have my metal figures in those.

As for sets.... at least one of each figure from Harbinger to Bloodwar. Can't wait for Unhallowed.

With each new set I use up about three-four drawers or a new box. With the second Huge set I have since bought a larger box for those also.

I've got my Giants of Legend case and eight of the packs from inside. Each pack is a category (pc races, humanoids, undead, natural beasts, etc.).
