So, its been a while since this was bumped last...

I take it all notions of a DC metro area gameday are gone?

Well, I think it's a little late for the spring one. :)

I still wouldn't mind seeing one in the fall or next year.

Does anyone have a big backyard? 35 - 50 folks is a lot... if you keep them indoors. Someone with a house (ie, someone not me) might could have room for folks in the back yard. All that we need after that is some tables and chairs. Toss in some sweet tea, and we've got a gameday.

Some of our more northernly companions might not drink sweet tea! But that assumption is probably just going to open up a whole can of worms ;).

So I guess to plan out a gameday, we really just have to peg down a venue first. Considering the shifting nature of our timeline, it is going to be hard to determine an exact number of participants or what games we'd want to see run.

Sadly, I do not have any ideas about venues in the area that would be accessible to everyone. Obviously, places in the city would be most convenient thanks to metro access - but probably the most expensive.

Would definitely be interested in this.

As much as I would like to volunteer my yard, I got 3 issues, wife, dogs, kid.
Wife she likes to supress my inner geek.
Dogs, all larger breeds and tend to bowl people over with their affection.
Kid he would be easy. Just tell him everyone is bringing mini's. He would just want to watch.

But keep me updated, I can release my geek away from the house.

Hello DC/VA/MD peoples!

It is my pleasure to bring you a discussion about a DC/VA/MD Gameday for the late winter/early spring of 2007. I know it's early, but if we're going to do this and do it right, we need to start planning early.

So, I guess, my first question is: who's willing to help out and what sort of help are you willing to offer? Do you want to volunteer to make phone calls to local gaming stores and companies to see if we can get some sponsorship/donations for door prizes/auctions? Do you want to try to help raise some funds (as we'll need a bit of money)? Do you want to donate $10 to go towards the renting if a conference room? Do you want to volunteer to put people from out-of-town up at your place? Do you want to host an independent site for advertising the gameday? There's so many things that will need to be done... and we'll need people to do all of them! And, what is more, we want a group of diverse ENW-ers to think of everything and help cover all our bases. :)

This is something that I've been dreaming about for about a year, but did not want to dedicate my time to until I could see the proverbial light at the end of the academic tunnel (and with my December graduation 100-days-away-or-so, that light is near!).

So... let's get a dialogue going!

I can supply some door prizes. I have a bloat load of left over stock from my game store. Will probably donate some portion of what I haven't sold via ebay by then.

Thanks,
Rich

I think Queen D is buried under several tons of RPG books.

I thought about this the other day. As I recall a venue was still up in the air. I will check with my apartment complex and see if the community room would be available. The parking isn't the best around here (though there is some), but it's extremely Metro convenient, there's several places to eat nearby, and I don't think it would cost anything to use.
You've got the right of it; however, she's just peeking out from beneath the pile, and she's ready to devote some attention to gameday idea once more. Would you mind checking into the availability and capacity of the community room at your complex?

I talked to the events coordinator this afternoon. The room is available. Rules are pretty simple -- basically, I have to be there, no live music, no charging for anything. There are male and female bathrooms and a small kitchenette (water, little fridge, microwave) attached. Max capacity is 100; there are a number of square and round tables, and enough chairs for about 35-40 that I could see.

It's available from 9am to 1am. As of today, every Saturday in September and October was still open (I didn't ask about anything before that). Limited parking is available in the complex outside parking lots, and it's a 3-minute walk to Metro.

So much for the 'free' bit, though. I'd misunderstood the cost/security depost bit. It costs $200 for the room, plus a $200 security deposit (they just hold a check and return it uncashed once they inspect the room, so no cash outlay). I attached a crappy picture from my crappy camera phone. It's actually a little bigger than it looks as I wasn't all the way against the back wall, and there is space off to the side that you can't see.
