WotC's release schedule Jan - Apr ´08. 4th Edition?

What prompts WotC to release a new edition?

In my understanding, they'll release a new edition when they believe the extra cost of R&D and potential alienation of some of the fanbase will be offset by the profits made by a new set of core rulebooks that, likely, 60-80% of the existing fanbase will purchase.

Also, they have to consider that they might drive away D&D minis players if the new game forces them to rewrite the minis rules.

Anyway, I think the feedback from Star Wars is too new for WotC to be considering how to write 4e yet.

You guys are seriously making me consider going through with my master plan to troll Gen Con by having a shirt with a fancy logo and the words "D&D 4th Edition - Coming December 2007!"

If anyone asks about it, I'll say they're giving them away at the WotC booth. :D

I am stealing your idea, sir. Sorry. :(

On the plus side, I whipped up a logo to use.

Like sunspots, D&D has an eleven year cycle.

1978 1e
1989 2e
2000 3e

Which means they can't release 4e until 2011 or the universe would be thrown out of balance.

Now available in pessimistic and paranoia noir, suitable for all your Cafepress needs.

As I posted elsewhere, it struck me as strange that there are no mass market novels (read paperbacks) at all in this catalog. So the catalog is, I believe, incomplete in this regard. It seems they just left out that section entirely. But I doubt WotC has much more to be published during the beginning of 2008. I think the gaming lists are essentially complete, barring minor adjustments.

For the record, I think December 2007 is too early for the release of 4E. I expect at least a nine month delay btween the 4E announcement and its release. Distributors and retailers need that kind of lead time for something of this magnitude.

Forget Dungeons & Dragons!

Why the hell are they releasing a Star Wars Saga Edition GM Screen next year?!?!!!

Gee, I hope they release the next edition D&D core rulebooks one volume a year (over a period of three years).
