Gildrim's conclusion is astute, as the doors on the left open into servants' quarters. The first room is a double, with two plain beds covered in tattered linens. A quick search reveals nothing but cobwebs in the corners, and the party moves on to the next room. It is smaller, with room for only a single bed, but the bedclothes have been rearranged into a sort of nest. It is immediately obvious what made the nest, as a large snake rises from it on your entry, hissing threateningly.

The snake wants you to back off right now

[sblock=know nature DC 15]by its the shape of its head, you guess that this is probably a constrictor snake.[/sblock][/sblock]

Erf moves up so that he is visible through the door, he moves slowly staying behind Gildrim, and takes a few moments to coo reassuringly at the snake - which appears distinctly unimpressed.

"Lets leave 'im be fer the time bein', he ain't doin no harm here. Maybe we can come back later when hes off on a hunt and give 'is nest a quick once over fer valuables - he won't have much use fer 'em."

OOC: Ah curse Erf's love of nature thats a tube shaped chunk of XP! LOL

[sblock=Why Erf is a Darwinian style Druid!]
Because those who attack big snakes when they don't have to are more likely to get eaten by big snakes. Being eaten by big snakes decreases future Erf production, ergo...[/sblock]

The snake hisses louder and sways ominously as Erf tries unsuccessfully to cheer him up, but does not advance. Erf eases the door shut, and the hissing subsides, though the rasp of scales on wood can still be heard through the door.

The two remaining servants' rooms are unoccupied and a cursory search turns up nothing of interest. Peering down the stairs at the end of the hallway, it seems very dark. The small amount of ambient light, combined with the steady blue flicker of the candle in Erf's hand, light this servants' hallway well enough, but the they seem wholly inadequate against the subterranean gloom.

[sblock=gildrim]Your dwarven eyes penetrate the darkness well enough to see that the stairs continue into a hallway with rough stone walls. [/sblock]

ooc: I've got half an update written, but I'm just too brain-fried to do it justice tonight. It will probably have to wait until tomorrow evening.
