[Adventure] The Darkest Night (DM: johnmeier1, Judge: Ozymandias79)

As the crocidiles teeth sink into him Dextyr lets out a cry of pain. Looking around he tell that either Shorrin or Sheng, or perhaps both will not survive long against these dammed beasts. Not knowing who to aid, self preservation kicks in. "Dam you Tonk for leaving us!" he cries out and manages to twist and roll out of the creatures grasp, coming to a stand a few feet away. A quick step brings him beside Murphys shadowy duplicate. He brings his longsword around and down on the nearest Croc while beginning to sing an imperial battle hymn.

Dextyr stabs through the head of the crocodile and it falls limp in the swampy water.

[sblock=OOC] I can NPC Shorrin tomorrow when I get into work[/sblock]

Shorrin swings his warhammer brashly at one of the crocodiles, but it bounces off the creature's thick skin. He shakes off the vines writhing around him. One of the mystics roars and charges the dragonborn, connecting with a critical hit. The other circles around and tries to approach Dextyr, but Janus tosses it back. It hisses and charges the bard nonetheless making a bloody gash.

The wounds on the crocodiles mend slightly. Those nearby Shorrin bite at the fighter and though he fends off one, the other bites and grabs onto his leg. The other two have Sheng in their jaws and with a gut wrenching sound then rip in opposite directions. The sorcerer jerks and then goes limp. One of the mystics shouts to them and they drop their feast, moving in on Murphy. Sheng falls to the ground, dying from his wounds.

[sblock=OOC]I really don't like rolling for PCs if I don't have to, Shorrin missed and the bad guys crit? They have you on the ropes, but the mystics don't seems to be doing as much.

Lots of rolls here.
As described in the text, the mystics fail to recharge and attack with spears (I assume Janus would repulse, and since it crits I had him not send it towards Shorrin). The crocs next to Shorrin reduce him to 1hp. The crocs by Sheng rend for 17 damage, putting him at -4hp at the moment.

Sheng had 5 hp more, you never applied his resistance to the blog used by the mystic. He was hit by the charging croc for 6, and then for the two that were grabbing him, for 11 and 12 dmg, that's 29 dmg, leaving him with 18. So if they bite now for 17, Sheng's still standing at 1 hp.

SO, Dextyr has 1 Majestic Word left as well as one potion of healing. Dextyrs heal skill sucks, so he likely won't be able to activate anyone's second wind if they are down.

If what Voda Vosa states stands, then both Shorrin and Sheng are at 1 hit point, and Dextyr can only heal 1 of them next round. If either of you have your second wind then I would suggest using it. As well if anyone has an action point kicking around then I think it's time for that as well. If we can somehow drop Croc 4 next round we may stand a very slim chance of survival, but this fightis not looking good for the PC's.

Lets just say that if Dextyr had a pair of ruby slippers he'd be clicking his heels together three times chanting 'there's no place like Daunton, there's no place like Daunton, there's no place like Daunton.....

Anyway.... anyone else have any idea how we can avoid a TPK here?

OOC: I've no more resources with this character, unless he can find a tree to climb up and nuke people from there. All that given that he's still standing. Sheng still has a 3d10+8 dmg daily to blast someone, and deep shroud. Guess should have used them BEFORE being riped off in rags of flesh.

Hmmm....Murphy's really thinking of getting the eff out of here... His AP would likely be used on a run action. I may t-port to L21 and then run then AP and run again.... and then use cloak of shadows as a minor to become invisble to them for at least one more round. That'd let me get at least 32 squares away from the battle...

That way it would only be an 80% TPK ;)

Janus is pretty much out of resources too. Won't be able to post till this arvo(Aussie time). Janus lives be the saying. Descretion is the better part of Valor.

[sblock=Voda Vosa] Sorry about that, I remembered MOST of the time. Okay, Sheng is at 1hp, let us say that we leave the game state the way it is and he is no longer grabbed by two crocodiles and is prone? He could have bluffed his way out of it and they think he is down. That will give you CA and no opportunity attacks to blow the daily from below?[/sblock]

[sblock=everybody] Things are grim, I was holding back 2 of the crocodiles but misjudged how bad they would tear up Sheng. Murphy still has lots of hitpoints! :) Does anyone else have potions? I think that L4W doesn't tend to 1) give them out and 2) buy them. In tabletop I know easy ways to avoid a TPK as DM, but here it requires a little more Deus Ex Machina[/sblock]

lol This could get ugly in a hurry. Most of us were hurting after the first round. Oh well, good times.

btw, sorry for not posting, real life is annoying sometimes. (and I have no control over my right little finger or ring finger, damaged a nerve... fun to type now) [/sblock]
