To be honest, I can't even think of 3 Forgotten Realms novel lines, let alone characters in them. Drizz't and something and something?Who are these "people" you speak of? I don't doubt that there are some people familiar with them, but there are many people (such as myself) that aren't.

Heh. I'm totally seeing Drizz't Wacky Sword Coast Adventures as a take-off of Teen Titans Go!, with Drizz't filling in for Raven, Bruenor as Cyborg, Catti-Brie as Starfire, Wulfgar as Beastboy and Artemis as Robin. There you go that is more then 3 novel lines right there: Drizzt, Further adventures of Drizzt and Drizzt Wacky Sword Coast Adventures (Or Dude, where is my Abandoned Dwarven Mine?).
That's a cool list. Are they NPCs in your game?
I think Bahamut, Moradin, and maybe generic elf-god and the latter mostly because he's based off Elrond and other elf-lords in LotR. Well, the same with Moradin and Gruumsh too, I suppose - both are LotR expies of Aulë and Sauron, respectively.
...
As someone said, heroes are in short supply because PCs are usually the Heroes. You pretty much have to go to the novels and games for that. Villains are in much larger supply. In both cases, there aren't that many that have instant recognition it seems.
Like, this guy?All of those, except for Aleena, Bargle and Gord, obviously, are from the AD&D toy/merchandising line from the 80's. Everything from action figures to puffy stickers and coloring books. Strongheart, Kelek, and Warduke get special props because they were actually "big" enough to have single episode cameos on the Saturday morning cartoon.
