Maenor Thandgur

[section]

Maenor attempts to take a swipe at the remaining goblin, but as his blade is about to connect time seems to slow for him and then reverse. His actions seem to play out in reverse and he finds himself back where he started, seemingly unaware of what just transpired. The remaining goblin gawks at the ancient warrior, unsure of what it just witnessed.

Regar focused with all his might. A bead of sweat dripping down his nose in concentration as he readied himself. The dulled clashing in the background blocked out in the wizards mind as he prepared himself.

Suddenly, with a swift strike he hit his page with the ink of his quill, the beautiful line-work dancing around the edge of a tunnel he had just drawn onto the page. A trapdoor leading up!

With that he raised his eyebrows twice with a smug smile at his handiwork before turning the page over, looking in front of him only to see the line had not progressed forward. "Hey guys! Why have we stopped? Lunchtime?" The screech of a goblin filled his ears... "Ohhh..." said Regar a little disappointed... "Just goblins... Erm... Need some help up there? I could summon something to help you?"

falling in step behind Kepli, the scuffle and clang of fighting piquing his attention, the dwarf jostles into a hustle. Pausing as he passes Regar "yes mighty fine work, lad, nice detail on that trapdoor there...now lets get ya up through the real thing!" Snorri reaches down to give the elf a hand up and encourages him forward ahead of him.
Waiting his turn to get up through the hatch, the stonelord stows his hammer in his belt and shoulders his shield. Unslinging his crossbow and cocking it as he turns around to guard their rear as the rest climb up.

The last goblin falls dead, clutching his wound and shrieking as he falls. The room it had been guarding is otherwise empty of anything except a table, two chairs and the toppled brazier.

The only ways forward is a stone staircase to the north which leads into the darkness of a passage, or a rope bridge to the west. The rope bridge to the west leads to a high platform atop a stone spire where rests several goblin huts.

OOC: Still need the DC 15 Reflex check for Brog and Ciaus avoiding 5 hit points of fire damage. I will roll in my next update if they fail to do so.

Regar gladly accepts the praise and the hand-up from the now cheerful dwarf. People confused Regar sometimes. There were manuals on people, socialising, appropriate behaviour and the such, Regar knew this. He had so far read 37 of them. The only thing he seemed to be able to take from his readings though, was that no matter what you could learn about people from a book, there would always be exceptions.

The most logical person in the world could one day act completely illogical. A gruff or angry person may sometimes reveal a kinder nature. A cheery person could become nasty in a moments notice if certain criteria were met. But ultimately, there was no formulae for sentient behaviour and this is perhaps what confused Regar most.

Any outsider of course could tell you that more than half of Regars problems stemmed purely from his overthinking of things. His poor social skills and lack of common sense were in no two ways a result of this overthinking and this, coupled with the fact that Regar WAS for all intents and purposes not yet a man, was his main problem.

This, in addition to the fact that he had been constantly picked on by the other students where he grew up, probably led to a lack of confidence and so as a result, he is ALWAYS trying to overcompensate with everything he does. The oversized wizards hat along with the constant know-it-all-isms are merely attempts for him to be acknowledged by others.

As Regar leapt up to the next level, he continued drawing up the layout of this area.... Then a thought came to his mind. a

Regar tapped his bottom lip with the feather of his quill. "With clear water in there and a light spell, I dunno, maybe we'll see the reflection of treasure?" He shrugs and goes back to his mapping.

Kepli looked around then moved to right the toppled brazier. It was a habit, straightening things, and this wasn't even her home. She turned away and studied the two directions. Her gaze rested long on the staircase and dark passage.

"That way seems dark and dangerous... and probably the way we want to go, then."

She looked over at Regar. "Water? Reflection of treasure? Uh, what do you mean?"

Regar shrugs as he continues doodling, "Snorri thinks he saw something in that filthy well in the room where we fought the shaman."

He pauses and picksup a small stone. "Maenor tried using a light spell on an old book and dropped it in the well...." Regar mimes Maenors actions from before. In a high pitched voice he adds sound effects to the pebble in the well... "Pl-ooop! Bloop blooop bloop bloop bloop bloop bloop bloop bloop".

He stops momentarily, voice changing back to normal. "Snorri says-" his voice changes again... A very bad interpretation of Snorris deep rough dwarven voice "-Oi, you see that?" and then Regar giggles a little louder before he continues.

"Then Maenor makes this face..." Regar arches his back, obviously exagerrating Maenors reaction. He raises his top lip as far as it can go, expanding his eyes in a look of surprise as much as possible. Regar then slowly backs away from the pebble. "So he just backs away and says erm.... 'Not now not ever'."

He giggles again... "Heheheh annnd Scuttle saw something too, but then squawked pretty Loudly and moved away. Now I don't really know how to speak seagull, but I think the gist of what he was saying was 'I don't get paid enough for this'!"

With that, Regar giggles a little more Before continuing. "Anyway, I just think that if my cantrip wil clear up the water there, it might be worth having a look, because i don't think the idea ridiculous that a goblin shaman might hide his treasure in a well with his pet 'fish' whatever it is!" Regar sighs now, another giggle or two at his jokes before he takes his quill and starts doodling some more in his book.

Without any better idea, the party takes the suggestion to go north up through the stairs and into the darkness of a cavern. The floor of this cave is filled with rubble. Small boulders and bits of broken tile line the floor. At the back of the chamber stands an ominous statue that reaches to the 20 foot ceiling. The statue depicts a muscular dwarf with the out-stretched wings of a bat, and writhing tentacles in place of a beard. The statue’s head is thrown back in a wild howl, its massive, gemstone eyes sparkling in the darkness.
