12 Demon Cults From Kobold Press

Kobold Press' latest Kickstarter is for D&D 5E and for Pathfinder, and is a 120-page book detailing a dozen or so demonic cults from their Midgard setting (although designed to work with others). You get the PDF for $17, or the print version for $29. For each cult, you also get sample cultists at a range of CRs, new monsters, and cult-specific magic. Thematically, there are Egyptian-themed and Nordic-themed cults as well as various cults created for Kobold Press' Southlands. Click on that charming chap below to jump straight there!

I like some of their stuff, but there's a lot of holdover from PF in their 5e stuff; like, Tome of Beasts has Constitution ability damage still, which is just a bad idea.

You get your CON dropped, so does your HP change? Do you recalculate it, spending 10 minutes doing so?

Yep, CON ability damage should never be used in 5e product either reduction in the hit point maximum or exhaustion.

I do love the Tome of Beasts (it's an excellent resource and well worth the price), but you're right, some of the conversions aren't well thought-out. There are even a few glaring errors, like references to Fortitude saves.

Not sure if I'll back this one. Not because of quality issues, but because I'm not sure I have any use for it.

Yes, this is certainly more of a specialized volume than a generic monster manual like TOB. It does have new spells, magical items, a few new monsters, and some Midgard lore as well, so it will certainly find an audience.

The whole project funded in a bit under 5 hours. Which isn't to say it's for everyone, but we're happy with it. Guess we'll see how far it goes by the end of the month.

I like it; I want the pawns, but can't afford them with everything else I'm saving for...FGG just had Bard's Gate, and is having another KS in a couple months...ugh. I hate being poor. Only reason I bought ToB is because I should never be allowed free roam in a gaming shop unsupervised.

I think you are going to be very happy with the errata sheet for TOB next week.

I look forward to it!

Probably not for me.
Sounds cool, and it will likely be easier to convert than 400+ monsters (and thus fewer errors). But I just don't use demons and cults enough.
I hope it does well, though...

It's doing very well! Funded in about 5 hours, and has hit 2 stretch goals already, one for more art, and one to expand the options available for Anti-Paladins.

While it is called "Demon Cults & Secret Societies", it's a fairly good spectrum of demons, devils, doom speakers, evil gnomes, undead cults, dark fey, blood sorcerors, and hermetic power-seekers.
