D&D 5E Chris Perkins drops 2020 hint!

Urriak Uruk

Gaming is fun, and fun is for everyone
I don’t think that logic applies to d&d. I could be wrong. But I would put money on it not being dragoblance. And I like dragonlance alot. Now if his hint was if you are Tracy and Laura Hickman fans.... I would agree with you.

I don't personally think it's Dragonlance either, I just don't think the hint is definitive proof for one theory or another.

It is meant to be a Teaser. They want people guessing and speculating. I don’t thing it is DL, but there is a connection, just not strong enough to me.

A crossover megaevent as crisis on infinite earths or marvel secret wars needs a lot of time if you want a really good plot.

Maybe it is a House on Gryphon hill, and this could be a open door for a third module set in Barovia, and later Desert of Desolation, and in the end of this story the PCs would be abducted by the dark powers and sent to the land of the mists.

Now my opinion is the return of the demiplane of dread will be with a "reforged" version of the six modules about the grand conjunction....after something will happen, maybe the dark powers "invading the crystal sphere where the Barovia kingdom in the prime material appears. This means the children of "monster high" would have got a sandbox with a bigger space to place. Let's imagine a region like the movie Doomday with infects mutants as demi-werebeasts and savage tribes. Yes, it would sounds like mixing Mad Max, Walking Dead, Doom Eternal, Necromunda and Van Helsing.

And we could discover Strand von Zarovich was victim of a supernatural conspiracy by supernatural forces to become the founder of the land of the mists, and Ilyanna the bait for the trap, to cause the fall of the knight in the "dark side of the force". And Azalin was manipulated by Vecna to cause the grand conjunction but somebody has altered this causing a "retcon" of the demiplane of the dread. Lord Soth would come back to Sithicus, but this in its own pocket universe between the crystal sphere of Krynn and the demiplane of the dread, and the god Raistlin from "that future" as guest artist.

Some darklords would be "killed" to become "vestiges" to cast pact magic with. Other darklords would be so powerful as sorcerer-kings from "Dark Sun".

What changes would you suggest to the setting?

I would rather see Azalin manipulating Vecna. But other than that I like it.

Vecna is an old fox. Maybe this could give a poisonous gift to Azalin and then we could learn the morale about more power doesn't mean more freedom. Part of the Ravenloft style is "the sin will be punished" or "you will have to face the consequences of your actions".

I think the future Ravenloft will be almost different. The gothic horror will be the main style, but also with spaces for other horror subgenres as the undead post-apocalypse, body horror, Lovecraftian or weird fiction. The could even to allow a open door for a spin-off to be used by Universal Pictures for future horror movies, or action horror as "Resident Evil". A spin-off? Yes, the dark powers infecting a crystal sphere, and by fault of the cult of elemental eye. You could bet the DM Guild would have got fans with their own suggestions to be added to this crystal sphere, some of them based in famous survival horror videogames. We could see the return of the jerren, the evil halflings from Book of the Vile Darkness.

Vecna is an old fox. But once you become a god you seem to start being outsmarted by mortals. The more power you have the more people there are that want to take it away. And for an upstart Lich god that number is legion. Hated by mortals, liches that want to be what he is, and gods that don’t like mortals ascending to godhood, especially one that is a Lich. And plus he really made enemies after Die Vecna Die and his invasion of Sigil. I would say his days may be numbered. He doesn’t seem to play ball well with the other gods.

Yes, Vecna can be used in a good story of supernatural conspirations, but it would need a good author. Maybe Hasbro could ask help to scripters hired by Universal Studios.

Vecna as god is a boring antagonist, too secret and hidden. Vecna could fake his own "death" to become a vestige, or to by Asmodeus spy. Or Azalin could become the "host" of a Vecna "spark".

* The masque of the red death could be the setting for a videogame, with more freedom to test new ideas, for example a prototype of the new d20 Modern. Or even this could have got its own version, a fantasy steampunk world like the project 7th Sea 1868 (a fantasy world is more politically correct. If you run an adventure in Madagascar for XIX then somebody will complain for the genocide against the native people by the British colonialists).
