And yet the sequel trilogy is still much better than the garbage prequel trilogy.
That's a really easy bar to clear.

Also, I am still not convinced that the Last Jedi was better than any of the prequel movies. Was it produced better than them? Sure. Did it have better dialogue? Definitely. Was its plot better? Easily. Was it "much better than the garbage prequel trilogy"? That depends on which side of the aisle you were on.

Aside from anything else, Skywalker Rises suffered greatly from the passing of Carrie Fischer. From art I've seen, it looked like it would have taken quite a different path.

Better than 2/3 of the prequels. By itself it's an ok movie, as a sequel/part of a larger universe not so much.

They resurrected Palpatines as they didn't have a villain for part IX and Kylo wasn't that convincing because of his loss and will he/won't he redemption arc.

In my opinion The Rise of Skywalker suffered most from The Last Jedi killing off all the plot lines and not setting up the third movie, or its villain.

I wonder if JJ Abrams now understands that the whole mysterybox way of storytelling is flawed. It gets people excited for sure, but it makes it really difficult to stick the landing. Anyone can come up with a mystery, but you also need to know the answer. You can't save that for last, or leave it to other writers.

Mystery box is fine if not great. As long as you follow it up.

They didn't.

Rise of Skywalker alone is almost a potential trilogy. If Palpatine came back from the get go and force ghost Anakin/Luke involved in putting him down that would have made a bit if sense as long as they explained his return onscreen and not in a novel.

Now, pulling the discussion back on topic, a major flaw with the story is becoming even more apparent, with them having to explain who Snoke is and how he was created in a spin off TV show.

I mean, it's cool and all, but that's not the place to explain who the hell the major villain of The Force Awakens/Last Jedi was. That should have been explained in the movies, not in a TV show that most of the people who saw those two movies won't be watching.
