The Old Republic and the Republic are two different times in galactic history. The Old Republic ended in about 1000 BBY and shortly after that The Republic was established. And the High Republic era, that all the new books and such will be about, starts about 700 years into this 2nd Republic. I think this era needs a new name, since it is confusing to have the Old Republic, Republic, and New Republic, with the High Republic being part of the 2nd one.

Dumb thing with the STvwas each movie almost could have been a trilogy but they were barely related to the one that came before. Well TFA maybe but it was a bit over familiar.
