You'd be surprised by how intuitive and easy to learn this stuff is (most of the time) during actual play. If the complexity of it is the main reason you don't play, but are still interested, I'd recommend you try magic the gathering arena, because it's tutorials are very good, or for you to go to a LGS and play on a Friday Night Magic. People are always willing to teach new players the game.
Easy and intuitive until you hit a corner case, then you need to consult the 252 page rules document:

I do like that Erin Evans' characters have become iconic enough to be in a Magic set alongside Drizzt, Elminster, and Volo
