And now for something a bit different, aircraft. This is a Valkyrie for 40K that serves as a gun platform and a transport. I’ve got a layer of white primer and next will be a base coat of white aluminum. Over that, chipping medium, then colors, and then I can chip that away for a beat up look.

So I'm working on that IG Valkyrie I posted up there, and I decided to try some chipping medium. Chipping medium is a layer you apply on top of one layer of paint, then you apply another layer of paint over that (typically a different color), and then you can use water to create "chipping" effects to look like wear and tear. I've never really had a great deal of luck with chipping medium. I tried applying it through my airbrush, and although it seemed thin enough on its own, it kept clogging my brush. Even after applying thinner at a 1:1 ration, it gave me problems, but I was able to cover the model.

1. White prime.
2. Dark Aluminium from Vallejo
3. Chipping Medium
4. Haven't decided exactly what color to paint this thing yet. I should decide soon

Progress on my aircraft. This is my second attempt at a checker pattern and I’m pretty happy with it. A big improvement over my last effort.

Ha! I attempted a checkerboard pattern freehand on an Imperial Knight, er, in 2021 I think, and while the results weren't something I was ashamed of they weren't as crisp. No, this time I used used masking tape and my airbrush and the results were much better. My big mistake with the Valkyrie model is that I should have painted it prior to assembling it like I did with my Knights here.

And here we go, I finished the Valkyrie and I consider it one of my best proof of concept miniatures. As stated earlier, the canopy is rather messed up and by the time I realized it I determined it was too much of a pain in the rear to fix. Some things I want to try on the next Valkyrie I put together.

1. Paint instead of using decals where possible. I think I can freehand a mouth and eyes with a little practice. And I can use little tiny stencils to airbrush on letters.
2. Paint in sub assemblies.
3. Work on my weathering techniques. this thing looks like it just got a new coat of paint (which it did).
4. Do a better job assembling the model so the canopy looks right.

And now I have a solid piece of artillery with which I can smite my enemies from afar. My main goal was to paint something that resembled a military vehicle you might see in the real world. I then used some oil washes and pigments to dirty it up a bit. Overall I'm pretty happy with how it looks.

Did you see the artillery piece that was offered during Reaper Miniatures' Bones 3 KS, the Victoria Miniatures "Sledgehammer M22 BFG"? It's damn impressive...

I really wish that I'd gotten one of those, but I have no real use for it.
