D&D spell illustration challenge, day 6: Chain Lightning.

When gravediggers do complain too much after day 4, a teaching assistant should ensure the student can study quietly.

Prompt: A modestly dressed Asian female mage in her fifties steps out from a stone building through a wooden door into a sunny courtyard. Her features are sharp, with an air of quiet authority, and fine silver glasses rest on her nose. From her extended hand, a bright, arcing red lightning strikes a kneeling man. Red lightning go from the kneeling man toward three standing men behind him, hitting them in the chest. Lots of red lightning arcs between the men. Their bodies are convulsing in pain. On the ground there is a shovel.

Commentary: This one was quite difficult, because the model doesn't seem to grasp the lightning rebounding to more targets, and kept drawing people being struck from the sky. Also, no cleavage, and she doesn't look 20.

If anything this seems to have gotten even worse, and you are stuck in this 20-28 range with perfect skin.
It all depends on what the thing is trained on. The Microsoft version of DALL-E seems to default you young and petite white women, but you can push it off that default fairly easily.

Oh it definitely depends on the system.

Many are pretty bad, but some are quite good. ChatGPT is honestly fine. Other big names are fine. But the cheapo free ones are some of the worst. They clearly haven't been trained on enough (stolen) artwork.

I started with an explanation of how the undead work in my world.
Bloater

A

bloated and puffy dead corpse. Its skin white and blue, with puss leaking from open sores. It limps along slowly, but with purpose. Its mouth is always open, and from its throat can be heard a gross gagging, as if the creature swallowed salt water.

Origin – Drowned Victims

Bloaters are poor souls that drowned. Many a sailor has spotted through the eyeglass their long-lost crewmember that drowned rounding Cape Wave. The bloated body, sometimes with shark bites taken out of it, walking along the beach. Some captains and crews insist the body does not come back if the ship turns around and circles the area, tossing coins in to let them know they are missed, and their family will be taken care of.

Habitat – Islands and Shorelines

Be it river, lake or sea, bloaters never are far from water. Many times, they can even be found just beneath the water, waiting patiently for a victim. For that is what they need, flesh. It is the only reprieve their open mouths have from the drowning feeling that forever is forced upon their minds; biting into living flesh allows them to breathe once again, even if but for a short while. It is surprising to many that bloaters tend to congregate together, drawn by the Dead Realm or currents, no one really knows. But where there is one bloater, there are often many in hiding.

I had a discussion about ow this image would look. Here is what it came up with:

D&D spell illustration challenge, day 7: Charm Monster

1748078700698.png

A green dragon sighting isn't frightening for the savvy sorcerer, it means meeting a new pet thanks to Extended Charm Monster!

Prompt: On the porch of a rustic mountain lodge, an elderly wizard—round-faced, serene, and wrapped in a richly woven plaid—sits in a rocking chair of carved wood. His cap, rounded and fur-lined, fits snugly over his head, with embroidered patterns tracing along the fabric in muted gold and red thread. A small tassel or charm dangles from one side. Coming from the edge of the image, a huge, long, green dragon neck rests on the floor, its head resting peacefully on the wizard’s lap and his gigantic body outside the image. The wizard’s hand gently strokes its scales. Above the dragon’s head, a faint, glowing yellow heart-shaped specter floats—soft and translucent. The scene is quiet, intimate, filled with golden evening light and deep shadows.

Commentary: I was going for a wider view, with the rocking chair in full view, but the close-p ended up looking better; In a wider view, the dragon felt insufficently large, more like a cow-sized dragon-shaped beast.
