D&D General Psionic species and subspecies, will they make a comeback too?

elan and maenad offer little to the player that a human will not offer.
it needs something stranger and cooler for the iconic psionic pc option.
I agree Elan and Maenads should just be rolled in to human with a psionics feat, theres nothing notable about them. Same as Xeph and Gith. Kalashtar and Synads at least have a bit more of the alien vibe about them

So Improved Dromites, Shardmind and an Abberation race for the win:)

Elan (at least their 4E-esque version where it can apply to everyone, not just humans) have some legs to them, but Maenads are hogging the name of an actual mythological thing and are nothing at all like them

I'd frankly drop Synads well before Elan. They're doing similar things to Kalashtar but not as well, and its not like kalashtar are the most popular. Elan's "You used to be something else but you were re-created into an immortal form" has some good spookiness to it, but anything you can do with a Synad you can do with a Kalashtar

elan lack a cool look which is the problem.

I think Maenads were intended to be D&D none elf answer to Star Trek Vulcans, both are references to Greco-Roman mythology, both experience intense emotions, but bury those under logical self control. Elves already had the pointy ears so Maenads got everything else, although they did have a minor reference to Dionysus if I remember correctly.

Maenads were one of my favourite Psionic races.
