Ok are you just playing with us lol? I call shenanigans! Hardly anyone ever wanted to play a gnome, even back in the "Good Old Days", but let alone now.

As for the breath weapon, let's be real here for one minute - how many elves and dwarves were selected over the years primarily for their abilities (particularly infravision/darkvision, or weapon bonuses, or multiclassing, etc.) rather than because people genuinely wanted to play them? I'm guessing a lot higher of a percentage than poor fools suckered in by the terrible Breath Weapon ability of Dragonborn (or did they fix it in 5E 2024?).
The breath weapon for the 2024 Dragonborn now allows them to switch between a line or a cone AoE.

Which is funny given that the name Aasimar is pronounced as AH-sih-mar. Someone got tripped by the long a in their name.
Agreed, but it's an easy mistake to make and pronunciation differs between English dialects, let alone when translating into other languages but wanting to keep their own trademarked terms.

Aasimon was introduced as a term in the TSR era to get the religious fear mongering off D&D's back, just like Baatezu and Tanar'ri (and also were useful as terms they could trademark). Aasimar is a descendant term of this Angel-replacement term, but it's the one that stuck in the mainstream of the game. But its still sounds like "ass" to many people, even if the pronunciation is supposed to be "awe-z." It's a difficult word to get away from the table snickerings. Reminds me of when in high school, I tried to introduce my own setting's names for High/Wood/Dark Elves, and my players just insisted on calling them Huey, Louie, and Dewey elves because the names were too difficult (and the H and D fit the joke).

what breaks your vibe? Grell paladin-monks?

Really? They say Ass-imar in Baldur's Gate 3.
Yep. From the 2024 PHB:

Aasimar (pronounced AH-sih-mar) are mortals who carry a spark of the Upper Planes within their souls. Whether descended from an angelic being or infused with celestial power, they can fan that spark to bring light, healing, and heavenly fury. Aasimar can arise among any population of mortals. They resemble their parents, but they live for up to 160 years and have features that hint at their celestial heritage, such as metallic freckles, luminous eyes, a halo, or the skin color of an angel (silver, opalescent green, or coppery red). These features start subtle and become obvious when the aasimar learns to reveal their full celestial nature.

Even a pointy stick? (Monty Python) ;)

It's probably a boring answer, but it's also an honest one: I don't think more species are needed. I think we already have more than we could ever need, and even if we didn't, we have the framework in Tasha's to fill in any gap that we could imagine.
