Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

Personally the best success I had with quickly doing "organic" figs (models where they are primarily flesh, fur, scales, horn, rather than metal or clothing) was to prime black, paint colors in brighter shades than I'd normally use, then do a head to toe dark wash. Then touch up any brighter spots with a little highlight. I did dozens of GW Beastmen like this in a single evening's sitting and they came out really well.
That’s how I paint 99% of all my minis. 😅

Exactly what I do with most of my models too. All of my non-named character LotR models were painted like this.

Occasionally I will use a non-black wash on something and occasionally I will put edge/line highlighting on some key features, but the basic 'light colour black wash' on its own makes anything look good.

I not long ago finished 40 old plastic cadians using this method, with the addition of an edge highlight on the gun casing and helmet/armour. Flesh I did as cadian flesh, flesh wash, and then a nose highlight (only) in kislev flesh.

I once painted a night goblin not only with full edge highlighting but also a wood grain highlight on the spear shaft - but ain't no-one got time for that these days.
