Trailer Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Season 1) trailer

The films were 25 years ago. There's a whole generation of actors who weren't in the films (and I'm not counting the kids, obviously, as they weren't even alive!)
That’s not possible, because that would make me… well… it would mean… it would mean I’m almost…

Every time a Harry Potter video is posted on YouTube or Facebook -- not exactly bastions of liberal thought -- it's brought up.

The "no one has heard of a controversy everyone has heard about" discourse around here is crazy.
I think most people have heard of it but most people don't really care. More than any particular venue, Facebook and YouTube are both online, and the people who care the most tend to be very online.

That’s an interesting use of quote marks, but it’s not quoting what he actually said, is it? He didn’t say most people aren’t aware, he said most people don’t care. I don’t know how true that is (I would hope that people care about social issues, but it’s probably true that most don’t if it doesn’t directly affect them), but let’s at least address what people are saying rather than made up quotes, eh?

I think JKR's view on transgender women is a big deal to a small percentage of Potter fans and potential watchers of the shows, players of the games, etc. I'm sure on Bluesky its a deal breaker and boycotts are happening, just like with Hogwarts Legacy, but that game was a hit and I think the show will probably do well assuming its a good adaption with good effects and acting. Since its on HBO and I don't have that I'll catch it down the line at some point.

I'll be sure to relay that sentiment to my 76 year old mother who enjoys Harry Potter and is looking forward to the show but has no idea that people being upset with Rowling is a thing or why they might be offended.
Hope she enjoys it. Do you think she would care about the author’s views and actions if she knew? Would she want to know? If I didn’t know, I probably would want to be told.

Again, look at the posts on Facebook and YouTube. Even on Twitter.

The "huh huh, only liberals" dogwhistle -- because that's how Bluesky is mischaracterized by the right -- doesn't hold water.

This is, in fact, a well-known thing throughout the English speaking world (because I guess we've moved those goalposts so that we can say that native Urdu speakers are unaware of this) and lots of people do, in fact, care.

This is veering too far into general politics. Dial it back on topic, please folks.

Well maybe she should know that watching gives hate money. She might change her mind. Or not.
