Fighting the Gray Tide (Miniature Painting)

G
Thanks! You and @payn inspired me to dig my old box out and join in.

I was worried when I saw your first attempt with brush didn't work well as that's all I have currently. I ended up giving them a really good wash and scrub as my set definitely had a film and layer of dust on them. After that I just used a brush with Vallejo brand black primer followed with subsequent grey and white drybrushes. The black went on "okay", definitely not as good as with other actual minis but not horrible either. By the time the drybrush coats were applied, it was a pretty good coat. I think these pictures might have been before the final white drybrush, I honestly don't remember.

The barbarian reminds me of Bettie Page on steroids.

I recently backed a dice tower KS. These were printed FTM on a .v4 nozzle, so they could have been much higher resolution if I wanted to, but I didn't see the need for something like a dice tower

I thought about painting my Grimtalon as an osprey, but the feathers on the head are just too far off standard to really work.
(On a related note, that metal Reaper eagle is only about a third the size of ol' Grimmy...)

I actually have a bunch of the old Heroquest minis, even though I've never owned the game*. They show up sometimes on EvilBuy mixed in with random lots of actual minis.

I've got eight skeletons (six with the scythe blade broken off, lol), seven zombies with choppers and six mummies. I also have the elf.

*(I had temporary possession of a former friend's copy for a while, but I think I eventually sold it... somehow ended up keeping the gargoyle/balrog for quite some time, though. But about two decades later it wandered off...somewhere.)

I decided on red tailed hawk for inspiration. The head is a bit unlike most birds, and I'm trying to figure out what exactly I want to do with it even if I have the basic colors down.

Seeing I was on a bit of a roll with that red/orange/yellow colour scheme, I printed this Fat Dragon Games dragon (twice! the first time failed with broken wings and even on teh second print you can see where one of the wings almost broke off) in a Smaug like colour scheme... As usual, ignore those bloody eyes!
He's the happiest dragon I've ever seen! Love that bed of gold.
