    Advanced Classes for D20M

I did tweak one. Techie: ... robots? Montgomery Scott does not make frikkin' robots. Replace the "ROBOTS" talent with "That Magic Touch." That Magic Touch: Once per game session, by spending an action die the Techie may take 20 on any one Computer Use, Repair or skill use related to...

    mook!

I use mooks, but off the Burning Shaolin definition. Only hit on a 19 or 20, do d6 damage that can explode like an action die, only have 6 HP. AC is light armor (whatever system) +1 ... ... but don't underestimate them. Their sheer numbers allow them to occasionally hit, and at low levels...

[Dragonstar] Skills Question: Use Device vs. Computers/Electronics

I'm a Spycraft junkie, but I actually slightly prefer the skill list form D20Modern, which is free as the SRD. I'd say use the Computer Use rules from Spycraft (I combine them with the D20Modern, but no need), the Repair, Craft (electronics) and Disable Device (which is according to what kit...

    Source Materials for D20Modern Campaigns

I'll post a few more idea later, but there is one I want to get out there --- Warren Ellis' great new comic Global Frequency. He's structured it so every issue's a one-off, and they're brilliant. From the Russian teleporter linked to an H-bomb to the "real" 6 Million Dollar Man to the "memetic...

    d20 Modern or Spycraft?

Re: Re: d20 Modern or Spycraft? But Spycraft is OGC -- and might I say, does a HECKUVA job in making their back-page version of the OGL clear on what is and isn't OGC in each book. They regularly publish expansions and companion books that are really superior -- their mini-campaign...

    Burst Fire function/Burst Fire feat

Okay, I actually posted last over in the autofire thread, but this is where this goes I think. The trick is WOTC's use of the word "burst fire" as a type of attack rather than an actual weapon setting. Confuses the issue. (All the following is OGC, and only quoted in context of the OGL and...

Automatic weapons and firing rate (autofire)

Spent the afternoon pulling apart the different ways D20Modern, Spycraft and Dragonstar treat firearms and automatic weapons. (DNW has some nice stuff, too, but it's more flavor oriented, not mechanics). I just do want to say again -- the Spycraft Modern Arms Guide is a damn fine piece of work...

Sorry, totally spaced there. Too much leftover eggnog.

    Ballistic cover penetration thoughts...

Is that how that mechanism works? Funny, I thought it was cleaner than that. I was using a more streamlined way from misunderstanding it. How about : a.) 50% miss chance from the total concelament. (good approximation of not wanting to break it down to 5 ft. sections) b.) As modern weapons...

    Burst Fire function/Burst Fire feat

I like the suppressive fire rules from Dragonstar, but mad props must go to the Spycraft folks, as the system's built from the ground up for firearms. The burst settings, "cover me" etc. are great -- although I don't like their strafe and autofire, I actually prefer D20Modern's rules for that...

Pulp Spycraft (FINAL UPDATE!) *Updated 04/15/03*

And a Happy New Year to all my fellow dice-throwers!! (And I can't take credit for the one-liners. My players are all movie freaks -- Ross had been waiting to use that line since he heard we'd be playing pulp ...)

DarkMatter D20: Drunk Southern Girls with Guns ... UPDATED - 8/18/05!

Wow, I almost feel bad about Wulf inspiring my dwarven character in the Scarred Lands. Try double-folding the tinfoil on your head, it keeps the space aliens from reading my brain waves, maybe it'll help this ... About an 8. I had a great relationship with the director, and what's there is...

Pulp Spycraft (FINAL UPDATE!) *Updated 04/15/03*

PULP SPYCRAFT Capt. Houston stared into the shiny, scrubbed-clean white brainpan of Dr. Litello. "Now that's a helluva thing, he muttered ... ... to no one. The girl had slipped away silently. Two blocks away, the "girl" -- Nadia -- stepped into a phone booth. She arched an eyebrow as...

    Ballistic cover penetration thoughts...

Dragonstar actually has this mechanic, almost exactly as you described. They treat the hardness of the material the round is passing through as the DR to the final shot -- you may want to use a proportional ratio if you really want to tweak it. This works and is fun -- first time bullets...

Why is the Scarred Lands Setting so popular?

I just slapped 'em back in. They have no homeland, living integrated in other communities as service-oriented families -- and the master "information distributors" of the world. They have a vast, secret spy network -- or don't. But they're always the best folk to call when you need to know...

Why is the Scarred Lands Setting so popular?

Running a campaign there now. I'll skip the Faerun bashing and give you what I hope you need to know. 1.) Gritty nastiness. The Gods just recently destroyed the Titans, the entire continent's ecology is screwed up with foul, monster-spewing locations, big chunks of land are inhospitable and...

DarkMatter D20: Drunk Southern Girls with Guns ... UPDATED - 8/18/05!

Yes, well that's the damn problem with the genre . Real world sci-fi used to be Fantastic Voyage and Andromeda Strain, then the big loud dumb pseudo-science of Armageddon and others made the whole style of movie suspect. What kills me is that even in testing audience members will say...
