Thirteenth Doctor - First Season - Thoughts? (SPOILERS WELCOME)

I don't believe Tom Baker was particularly famous before he took on the role as he'd mostly only had small roles. Most of the actors that came afterwards were pretty well known beforehand though. Matt Smith was probably the first "unknown". I suspect that there is a small popularity factor, but...

Thirteenth Doctor - First Season - Thoughts? (SPOILERS WELCOME)

Whittaker was fine, but I'm not entirely sold on the "friends" - the most interesting one was killed off! It was a pretty "meh" intro episode, but I've missed the old-skool cliff-hangers, so it was nice to see one again! It'll be interesting to see how this develops.

What are you reading, Septembre 2018 edition

I enjoyed it too, and its a pretty good series... But since David Farland hasn't finished/released book 9 yet (It's been nearly 9 years since book 8 was released) you might want to hold off reading any more.

Best D&D Novels- Of All TIme

I was always fairly keen on the Eberron books. I seem to recall the Keith Baker and James Wyatt series were quite good. It has been a long time since I last read them though...

What are you Reading? July 2018 edition

Ahh - The last 3 get the series back to something that is actually worth reading :) Yay Brandon Sanderson! I've just finished Artemis by Andy Weir. It's ok, but sadly nowhere near as good as The Martian. Now I'm on to the latest in the cycle of Galand series - The spear of Stars by Edward W...

What are you Reading? June 2018 edition

That was such a dreadful book. Nothing happens of note until the last chapter... Fortunately the next one is more interesting. Currently reading The Superpowereds:year 3 by Drew Hayes. It's not great literature, but for some reason I'm finding it hard to put down!

Avengers: Infinity War' Release Date Moves Up One Week to April

Saw it yesterday. It's long, but it didn't feel like it - it's a really awesome film and it just flew by. You can definitely see where the money went!

    Han Solo movie incoming....

They did mention in ANH that several of the escape pods had been jettisoned. I always kinda wondered if there was supposed to be something between the two prongs...

What are you reading? Nov 2017

Currently reading "Crossers Maze" by Dorian Hart. I loved the story-hour it was based on, and its still good without the trademark DnD elements. Then it's on to the latest Brandon Sanderson.

    LOVING the new Punisher series

I'm currently up to Episode 9 and I'm still really enjoying it. However the burn doesn't really seem to be getting any faster... The body-count is quite impressive though!

    Looking some party games...

Thanks everyone! I'd not heard of any of those!

    Looking some party games...

Hey all, I'm looking for some recommendations for games to play with a large number (10+) of people. The games need to be (more or less) kid friendly as we have a couple of 8 year olds (going on 15) but also entertaining for the adults, some of whom may be alcoholically impaired... We're all...

What are you reading? - October 2017

I'm currently reading "The Core" - The Demon cycle part 5 by Peter V Brett. Been waiting for this for a while... Currently I'm about a third of the way through and finding it really hard to put down! I've really enjoyed this series even if all the characters are now getting a bit on the uber...

What are you reading? (August 2017)

Currently working my way through The Magicians series by Lev Grossman. It's got its moments, but I'm finding it a bit too inconsistent in internal logic, plot direction and character motives. Its proving a little too easily putdownable. Fortunately I have the next book in Michael J Sullivan's...

Sell me on a good fantasy novel

I haven't read many decent grim-dark books recently, but some enjoyable reads on the lighter side of the fantasy scale are: Benedict Jacka's Alex Versus series. It's a bit like a British Dresden Files. (I'd second Ben Aaronovitch's "Rivers of London" for the same reason) Michael J Sullivan's...

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword - better than I was lead to believe

I enjoyed it as well, but it could have been a lot better too. I agree that the cast was pretty good and it looked very pretty, but the plot was a bit hit and miss... You do have to remember to leave your brain at the door!

Marvel's "Iron Fist" (Now With Spoilers)

I've not quite watched them all yet, but despite all its flaws (and there are more than a few) I've been enjoying the series. I think the most annoying thing is that Finn Jones is completely miscast - he's not great as an actor, and I don't think he really looks the part of someone who has...

What are you reading? [March 2017]

I'm working my way through "The faithful and the Fallen" series by John Gwynne. Currently I'm on book 3 of 4. It's proving to be an entertaining story with quite a few unexpected plot twists. It does have a few plot holes, and the battle scenes tend to be a little silly, but I'm enjoying it...

[Oct 2016] What Are You Reading?

I'm working my way through The Brackenford Cycle by Nick Moseley. I'm on book two and so far its the most enjoyable series of books that I've read for quite a while.

Moffat stepping down; no Who in 2016

Mr Moffat wrote all of the best episodes when Russell T Davis was in charge, but nothing seems to have been quite at that level since he became the showrunner. I think some new blood is definitely good news.
