Why do 3E clerics get such good press?

When I play a cleric it is invariably the cleric that breaks the game for the PCs. In one game I cast "find the path" which completely bypassed all traps and led us right to the climax of the adventure where the cleric provided the boosts and fire support that made the climax an easy battle. The...

    GC 2006 - Ptolus Hardback $120!?!

There's the trade-off. If D&D was my only hobby, I might be willing to sacrifice more hours to it. But it isn't. I've got my girlfriend, I've got reading (non-gaming materials!), cycling, hiking, backpacking, photography, a well paying job that I intend to keep (which can mean long hours)...

    GC 2006 - Ptolus Hardback $120!?!

A book is worth $120 if it saves me $120 worth of time. If you make $10 an hour, that's 24 hours of time. (Studies show that people value leisure time at half their hourly rate) If you think about it, that makes most pre-published adventures, etc., worth a lot of money if you're a salaried...

    GC 2006 - Ptolus Hardback $120!?!

Yeah, but the web page claims mid-level characters. I don't know about you, but 17 level doesn't sound like mid-level to me! I estimate that the PCs will be 11th or 12th by the end of the Banewarrens. I doubt if that's considered mid-level, unless Monte's campaigns are like nothing I've ever...

    GC 2006 - Ptolus Hardback $120!?!

Hm... What level PCs is Night of Dissolution set up for? We'll see how quickly my PCs progress through Banewarrens. If they get through most of it by winter, we'll probably start another campaign. If they're still halfway through it by January, I might turnaround and buy it.

    GC 2006 - Ptolus Hardback $120!?!

I just started a Ptolus campaign on Tuesday... What gets me is that I just started my Banewarrens game on Tuesday. If this product had been out earlier this year, I would have felt obliged to buy it. As it is, we'll probably be Ptolus'd out by the time the product comes out. On the other hand...

D&D SHOULD NOT have a defined atmosphere/style *Semi Rant*

I disagree. I ran a 3e/3.5e game from 1st to 20th using nothing but published adventures, and the rules as written are balanced (especially after the 3.5 upgrade). No PC outshone another, and the game did not break. The PCs did get more and more effective, but that was mostly because the players...

My thoughts on WOTC saying "we'll give you a leat a years notice" saying at GenCon.

All it took was for one NPC to use "hasted, harm, magic missile" to utterly take out a PC with no save possible before all the PCs in my game clamored for a switchover to 3.5. It certainly fixed most of the egregiously broken elements of the game.

    Delta Green D20, its alive!

Is there a pre-order page for this? I definitely have a hard time believing that it'll be in print after all these years.

Responsibility for fun: DMs and/or/vs. Players

the player's role... ... is to give me hooks in their character background that I can hang a story on. If they do that then they'll get more spotlight time. If they don't then the story becomes about what the world is.

    why are wizards so weak?

This has been my biggest problem with clerics. Every new spell added suddenly becomes part of their repertoir. In my latest campaign, clerics are now spontaneous casters a la sorceror as per the Unearthed Arcana variant. We'll see how it works out.

which issue of dungeon magazine had initiative cards as the insert?

Yes, I know you can download them (and I have). I just want to know which issue of dungeon had them so I can get extra cards without having to print them.

Call of Cthulhu- which version should I buy?

Don't forget my own Masks of Nyarlathotep conversion at http://www.geocities.com/choonpiaw. That'll turn the classic CoC campaign into a CoC d20 game.

Want to recommend a book, or a series of books?

Vernor Vinge "A Fire Upon the Deep" "A Deepness in the Sky" I started AFUTD, and it's good. Really good!

    I am a homebrew snob

I run entire campaigns using published adventures... ...and I even run them in Greyhawk, the first published setting. My players are always surprised by how much I manage to tie them together. I don't have time to make adventures or settings, so this is the way I play nowadays.

Adventures--Do you run them or cannabalize them?

I run entire campaigns with published adventures I modify them only as much as necessary to hook my PCs, and then I use everything else as is. I even use everything as is if there's a level mismatch. (I've run adventures that were "too high" or "too low" for my PCs --- they never know what to...

A shift in lethality. What's fair warning?

One possibility is to introduce a new game mechanic like "Action Points" into the game. It's a clear signal to players that things are about to change, and has the advantage of giving them a little added edge (that they will presumably need).

Why I refuse to support my FLGS

Retail has to evolve I haven't been to a physical game store for years. The same goes for bookstores (though Borders at Christmas reeled me in by giving a massive discount for a book I wanted). And clothing stores, etc. If I know that I want something, I'll buy it on-line if I can. It's more...

    Lich Queen's Beloved

It's a great adventure. A bit too easy if your players are super-twinkers, but can be very deadly if they're not prepared.

Vote: The Best OD&D and B/ED&D Adventures!

What happened to B3: palace of the silver princess? Maybe it wasn't a classic, but I actually liked it.
