    Stupid door tricks

The military DOES use a 'kick in the door' method when doing urban raids. It can take less than 5 seconds on average for a Marine to kick in a door.

Just found out about these islands and I'm trying to cook up an adventure!

I'd probably go with a prison angle (playing up the fact that a nearby island was host to an exiled dictator) with maybe some additional creepinesses. Not so much 'creepy stuff is happening' more 'you got dumped here, with no clue why, and you're on an island where people tend to be killers'...

Need critique for my combat system

Might I suggest pre-rolling a bunch of rolls, then using them for each combat? This way, you can see what the averages are for each class, and it doesn't matter if the rolls are bad/good, because they are equal in all cases.

    Bards - Likes and Dislikes?

I love the CONCEPT of the bard; someone who inspires I like the bard spell list, bardic knowledge, and ability to cast arcane spells in light armor without problems. I also like that it's an arcane caster with reasonable BAB, and a few martial weapon proficiencies. I dislike bardic music. It...

    Effects on low-armor/no-armor campaign?

Like level-dipping isn't already a "problem" in med-high level play? It's not anything new.

Star Wars: Credo of the Grey Jedi . . . I chose something else!

Oddly, Yoda's used Force Lightning as a first method of attack himself in one or two of the movies, as far as I recall. Plus, I think that he's considered one of the ultimate "Masters of the Light Side" in the entire canon. Therefore, it stands to reason that Jedi can use Force Lightning in the...

What DO you DO for... Fighters?

Basically, the idea behind fighter's cunning is that they use their knowledge of opponent tactics to hide their real attack. They sacrifice their first attack, which becomes a 'cover' for the real attack that will strike at an opponent's weakspot, and therefore do a ton of damage should it hit...

What DO you DO for... Paladins?

Kill off forced LG alignment, require clerics and paladins to choose only one of the 4 alignments from which to draw their general spells, though clerics can get 2 if they match up alignment-wise and pick the alignment domains, force paladins to choose a cause, and make all of their smites into...

What DO you DO for... Fighters?

Alone among the classes, I'd actually consider pumping up their reflex saves and skills. Basically: Fighter Class Skills: Climb, Jump, Handle Animal, Intimidate, Bluff, Sense Motive, Spot, Listen, Craft, Profession, Knowledge (tactics), Knowledge (nobility/royalty), Skill Points Per level...

What DO you DO for... Fighters?

Yeah, I'd agree with Atreides. I'd consider it a must-have for everybody except perhaps fighters. As a rogue, barb, or monk, speed/reaction-time is critical for the class. Fighters not so much. Their schtick is being the guy that can do what he does forever without too many limits. I'd actually...

Gamer seeking Kansas City, MO/KS or OPKS group.

I'm still looking for a group. Contact info has remained the same. I can safely say most nights will be OK, save for Tuesdays, at least for the forseeable future.

The party's cleric *won't* heal your character?!

However, there's still the forgotten assumption about the CLERIC. Assuming the cleric is lvl 7, he/she has access to 4th level spells. Therefore, the cleric quite possibly has divine power active on him/her. If the cleric is using the same weapon as the fighter, then the cleric/fighter are...

    "Metadesign Principles of D&D"

Eschew Materials and Spell Mastery, if a wizard, is almost always worth 2 feats anyway, if you know your DM is gonna be a "steal the spellbooks and shatter the spell component pouches!" type, as they allow characters to ensure that they can get away if possible (there may be some situations...

    Oaths with system???

I would say that it should be something like: Fiannan Blood Oath (su): While underneath the effects of a Blood Oath, a player... Gains a +4 bonus to will saves involving mind-affecting effects involving the Oath, but a -4 penalty to all other will saves. Gains the effects of the feat Diehard...

    There's also http://www.planewalker.com too.

    "Metadesign Principles of D&D"

Actually, I don't think the inherent/level bonus odd-number mechanics is due to the 'difficulty' of getting the item. It's tied in with Save DCs. Assuming 'standard' treasure, you end up getting saves that are 15+level, and characters that will save 50% of the time on a poor save, and 75% of the...

Removing Some of the Top-Heavy Elements of Classes

Actually, I'd still give fighter weapon proficiencies at 1st level, or at least offer a single UA weapon group, even if weapon groups aren't being used to those who don't already have any proficiency in any martial weapons. Armor isn't always as necessary, but weapons are critical to fighter...

Point Buy and Rolling - The Poll (the hard way ;p)

I'll go with 1. However, I'll do it using pointbuy, set HPs, and set money/XP counts. I don't like messing around with players over money/attributes/classes. I'd much rather say: "You've got X. Here's the basic campaign idea. What do you want to do?" KNOWING full well that if a character is...

    Good cleric idea?

Ok, I've got a problem with the current cleric, and divine casters in general. Divine casters under core get any spell on their lists, which also is supposed to include new spells found in additional allowed rulebooks, and can take a few domains to get spells that are primarily the purview of...

    Tweaking Skills - Thoughts?

Great Idea! I'll have to use that! That'll be great for people who like the concept of familiars, and want some variety in how each one benefits mages. If you get that idea worked up, post it! I also love the concept of making speak/write languages and decipher script one skill. I like the...
