D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Best cleric spells to put on scrolls?

DMG, page 287: "If casting the spell would reduce the caster’s XP total, she pays the cost upon beginning the scroll in addition to the XP cost for making the scroll itself." So...no.

D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Best cleric spells to put on scrolls?

Well, the topic is what to put on a scroll, not cast. So I don't see any "disagreement." We're just talking about two different things. In any case, my list was limited to core spells. If mass resist energy is available, it's a pretty good choice.

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Mounted Combat

Seriously? Dandu posts wrong answers and two people give him XP; I post a link that's actually helpful and get none? Man, @#$%& you guys. If that's how it works, let me try... Dont forget that you can't use slashing weapons while mounted unless you succeed on a DC 15 Ride check. Now, where's...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Mounted Combat

Yes, actually, with the appropriate Ride check. Dandu doesn't seem to know much about mounted combat, so I'm not sure why's he's posting here and giving you bad information. I suggest you start here: Rules of the Game: All About Mounts (Part One) And read the rest of the series, which you...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Detect Thoughts question [3.5e]

 The doppelganger's ability works "as the spell." If you save against the spell, you feel a hostile force or a tingle. So what wording makes you think it wouldn't, exactly?

    Is D&D "about" combat?

"Greyhawking" isn't a reference to combat or clearing a dungeon of monsters, and it didn't originate with old school D&D. It came about because treasure was so scarce in the RPGA's Living Greyhawk campaign that players would strip every weapon, piece of armor, or other item in every room of a...

    Can non-touch spells be "held"?

No, it's not allowed by RAW. No, I wouldn't allow it anyway. Why? Because for me, a lot of the pleasure I get out of playing the game is having to work within the rules. Having to position my archer in the right spot to deprive my enemy of a cover bonus to AC, for example, makes playing an...

Create Undead Help: will a created ghoul attack an evil lich that created it???

Well, let's see... Ghoul Str 13, Dex 15, Con -, Int 13, Wis 14, Cha 12 I'd say it knows better than to attack a lich that created it. ;) Seriously, though...a ghoul has no reason to attack a lich, and many reasons not to. I think it would indeed obey the lich's commands, not because it is...

A DM's Dilemma: Item acquisition and placement

I don't believe that's true, but assuming it is: so what? Chaos can lead to some very fun gaming. At the very least, it will be a learning experience for the new DM, and he'll be that much better for it.

Classic D&D tropes you've never mastered

Certainly. But this is a thread about "classic D&D tropes," you know.

A DM's Dilemma: Item acquisition and placement

I said "liberate yourself from what you think the rules are commanding you to do." The rules do not actually command you to hand out a certain amount of treasure; they are simply giving you a guideline. I'm running a campaign right now where the PCs are 5th level. The fighter has yet to...

Do you take gaming awards seriously?

I don't pay any attention to such awards, so I don't even know which games have won them. And if I did, it wouldn't influence me one bit.

A DM's Dilemma: Item acquisition and placement

What people with much, much more experience than you are trying to tell you is that the "better way" is to liberate yourself from what you think the rules are commanding you to do. Why would you want to do that? Because it will make you a better DM and result in a more enjoyable game. But if...

    When to throw Nish?

As soon as I need to know whether one creature's action takes place (or more accurately, is resolved) before another's, and no sooner.

Do you GM for yourself or others?

I have no interest at all in running a game that isn't the one I would really rather be running, or fashioning things to the tastes and desires of my players. Maybe I'd feel differently if I had any trouble attracting players to the games I do run, but I don't, so I do as I like and if a player...

    Ring of Invisibility

You can add me to that list. Not that I would object to it lasting indefinitely; StreamOfTheSky is right about that. But the RAW seems pretty clear to me.
