How do we WANT magic to work (Forked Thread: ... medieval war...)

Definately mysterious. 'Real' spellcasters in my campaign (as opposed to alchemists and the like) can best be thought of as being like Alma from F.E.A.R.- very powerful, very dangerous and not fully in control of their own will (if fact I use the Dragon from the MM as a template for when the...

    D&D 4e + new players = PURE WIN!!!

I won't bore anyone with my campaign notes of a young priestess leading a small band of mercenaries on a continent-spanning pilgrimage in a desperate attempt to end an eons-old battle between opposing nations before the two are both swallowed and forgotten by rising empires... ...I will merely...

    Fireball

Dm's perogative, all the way. My players once thought it would be a good idea to liberally roll around the Ball of Flame spell in a cushioned, carpeted, curtained room. Cue spontaneous skill check to stop the place from burning down.

I have the Eberron Player's Guide and Kingdom of Ghouls

Great. The dragonmarked bit has swayed me. Now I have to buy the bloody book.

101 roleplaying descriptions justifying martial dailies

Look, it is painfully simple. The Daily signifies when the A-Team music starts playing in the background.

4e - what kind of rate of advancement is typical?

To be honest, I typically just write a self-contained 'episode' of the campaign (my campaign is a long road trip, so each 'location' is one adventure) that lasts for 4-5 sessions of around 3 hours (so 12-15 hours total). At the end I advance the players a level. I find this a LOT easier and...

    Rolemaster?

I've played with mixed results. The first time I played was with a DM who hadn't run the system in a while and wanted to attach all the whistles and bells to run it. A single attack took 2 hours (!) to resolve. The second time was with a DM who clearly knew what to do, with a lite rule...

    I've DMed 4e and I PREFER DMing: A poll

Definately 4e. Oh yes. With so little prep time needed for statistics and a good system in place for skill checks, I can devote more time to the important things- determining plot and putting together exiting encounters (harder now than ever with so little free time). Plus the skill system/lack...

Woohoo! I crit with a daily!

The first time my party's ranger critted with a daily, then used an AP to attack again and still didn't drop the skirmisher he was fighting was the exact moment I realised that I would need to lower monster hp for my campaign.

4e Monsters that scare the crap out of characters

Deathjump spiders. They do nasty damage + ongoing damage, they can shift to anywhere on the battlefield, and they can ignore terrain.

    Monk Preview

Hmmm....devas or dwarves, I suppose. As well as humans. Devas especially seem perfect.

    Monk Preview

So...the best races for monks will be elves, half-orcs and shifters.... I think I need a lie-down.

4E, the Grind and Why I Play

Well, I have been running 4th ed. Strangely enough it was a campaign I had run for 3rd ed. I have to say- I like this edition. Some things still bug me (the lack of non-combat foci you can give your player- I really, really love Saga for doing the opposite) and I had to houserule and keep a...

    Options for a human-centric campaign

Hi there. I've posted the following on the wizards site- however, since I need all the PEACH I can get, I thought I would also post it here. As a fan of the low-magic campaign, I have always hated the idea of the demihuman race- the idea of these fantastic, semi-magical races wandering...
