    D&D 5E 5e/Next Cosmology

I'm not a fan of the Great Wheel, particularly the way it incorporates a grab-bag of real world mythologies. I also dislike its focus on alignment as an organizing principle. Furthermore, I'm strongly of the opinion that D&D needs a Faery Realm, and I've always been a little surprised that...

    WotC's D&D Virtual Table Cancelled

I don't think the cancellation of the VTT is itself a big deal. I'm pretty sure the VTT market is fairly small, and there are plenty of (superior) alternatives to what WotC had on offer. On the other hand, the cancellation speaks to WotC's continuing inability to handle it's electronic...

    WotC's D&D Virtual Table Cancelled

And the Compendium! The Compendium is the best thing since sliced bread and canned beer. I think WotC was behind the curve from the start with the VTT. There are tons of good VTT's available at prices ranging from reasonable to free. I had tried three different VTT's and looked at one or two...

    Rule-of-Three: 06/19/2012

I don't much care for facing rules. I find them to be too fiddly and nit-picky.

Quick question: does the prohibition on online play affect your playtest?

I play online using a VTT (d20 Pro). If I could access and download the playtest material (as of lunchtime today, I could not) and if I thought there was any teeth to the prohibition against online play, it would affect me.

    First Impressions?

I'm stuck at work and won't be downloading any playtest documents until this evening. Those of you who are more fortunate, what do you think?

How do you handle food and drink?

The vast majority of the time, I ignore/handwave the issue. From a metagame perspective, that type of bookkeeping bores me, and I'm not interested in keeping up with it. The times that I've been strict about the issue, my players have circumvented any need to worry about rations by either...

    Quick Beholder Question

Thanks for the answers, all! Pity my PC's, they've decided to camp literally right outside the beholder's lair.

    Quick Beholder Question

The bog standard level 9 beholder has the following power as a triggered action: Random Eye * Ray At-Will Trigger: The beholder is conscious and an enemy starts its turn within 5 squares of it. Effect (No Action): The beholder uses one random eye ray against the triggering enemy. Am I correct...

D&D 5E The shape of DDI for 5e

I hope they keep the Compendium around. I'm glad that I don't have to juggle a half-dozen or more books to DM 4E, and I'm glad that I can spend a few idle moments at work prepping my game. I think its safe to assume that Dungeon and Dragon will stay around, given that completely pulling the...

D&D 5E How are people currently feeling about 5e?

Moderately pessimistic. I think WotC's goal of uniting the fan base is laudable but practically impossible. I'm concerned that they'll try to please everybody and wind up pleasing nobody. I also have concerns about the modular nature of the new edition. I'm curious which modules will be...

Time to bring back the prose?

roadtoad It isn't GYGAXIAN WRITING unless it contains random italics, use of bold type for no reason and inexplicable capitalization.

    Generic Tokens for Virtual Gametables

I make the majority of my tokens using Google Image Search and Paint. Google and download the image, crop it in paint, save it as a .png or .jpeg. You can also find lots of groovy stuff on the Dundjinni Forums.

Time to bring back the prose?

I've always liked the Games Workshop approach: present the rules in a concise, straightforward manner (or at least attempt to); provide lots of evocative flavor on the side. If I have to choose between the two, I want the rules to be as clear and unambiguous as the designers can get them.

    Fighter design goals . L&L April 30th

This quote: "The fighter’s many hit points and high AC renders many monsters’ attacks powerless." Makes me a little nervous. I want fighters to have high survivability. I want them to be able to absorb tremendous amounts of damage and keep coming. I don't want them to literally ignore attacks.

    D&D 5E 5E: Is it possible?

I hope so, but I don't think so. I predict 5e will be mechanically different from any previous edition of D&D. Players will still roll a d20, add modifiers and compare the result to a target DC, but the way the modifiers and DC are calculated won't match anything we've seen before. This...

D&D 5E Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

The handful of hints I've seen about 5e's mechanics makes me think that core 5e will be different from any previous edition.

D&D 5E Monte Cook Leaves WotC - No Longer working on D&D Next [updated]

Whatever else happens, I guarantee you that on May 25, there will be a thread here saying that 5E looks too much like 4E and a thread here saying that 5E looks too much like 3E.
