[OT, cute] Loving your geek, tolerating his hobbies

The only thing left out of the article (maybe for good reason) is how geekdom can be contagious! As my converted GF can attest :D

    No Common Tongue

I've been in a campaign with no common tongue and it worked pretty well actually. In this campaign there was a dominant political power whos langauge was more common than most others. (It was far from universal however) Roleplaying the translator for party members has been fun when it was...

What is a DM, and what is a ceramic one?

Ha! I never paid close attention to the threads but I had always just assumed that 'ceramic dm' was for d20 modern... I'm not exactly sure why I decided to associate ceramic with modern though.

What sort of skill check would you use?

Thanx for the responces Hong and PC. My gut was telling me that Knowledge (Nature) was the skill I should use, but for some reason I felt like I needed to get some other opinions. I guess Knowledge (Nature) it is. :D

What sort of skill check would you use?

In my next game the PC's may decide to investigate the death of young woman in town. In this case she was killed by a group cultists that worship Baal, the great hunter and warrior. Anyway when they killed her they tried to make it look like she was mauled by an animal by using fake claws. If...

Chiming in on the D&D minis (merged with "anyone buying the new Mini's?")

True :) But when your are taliking about figures that are only 1" or so tall you need a good ammount of contrast to be able to discern any details on the mini. If its has brown armor and a brown belt, the belt might as well not even be there. If the hands are the same color as the weapon they...

Chiming in on the D&D minis (merged with "anyone buying the new Mini's?")

I've bought a few packages of the mini's and over all I'm more satisfied than I thought I would be. BUT there are deffinately contrast issues with some of them. I'm not an old man and have pretty good un-corrected vision but the goblin x-bowman for example looks like a blob of brown plastic from...

    Grappling the prone

True, but there are other grappling positions where one fighter is prone and the other is on their knees and the prone figher is in an equal or superior position. For example if the prone fighter has his legs around the waist (or his feet on the hips) of the fighter on their knees this postion...

    Grappling the prone

I would give the bonus for the touch attack for initiating the grapple, but not for the opposed grapple check(s). Anyone who is an experienced grappler (wrestler, Judoka, etc.) knows that you can grapple quite effectively even while prone. This is also how I would interperet the rules. Grappling...

How stereotypical is Weapon Specialization at 4th?

In our last campaign I had a Dwarf Brb2/Ftr4 who passed on both WF and WS. He was still a stunningly effective fighter. I like feats that increase my options in combat. WF and WS, while certainly effective feats are kind of boring. No where near as fun as quick-draw or cleave IMO.

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] - Can you Take 10 or Take 20 on a Hide check?

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] - Can you Take 10 or Take 20 on a Hide check?

I thought that you couldn't take 20 on any skill check that was an opposed check. In the case of Hide it is a skill that is allways an opposed check (vs either spot or search). I don't think you can take 20 on a hide check. Rationally if you are hiding, you can not "take 20" the very moment...

BotR Holy Warriors vs. Dragon's alt. Paladins

IMC we're using the BotR Holy Warriors, it has worked out pretty well so far. So cast another vote for BotR.

    UPDATE: Uncanny Dodge vs. Feint

The issue here is deciding what the intent of the designers was when they wrote the UD description. 1) If their intent was that UD protected the character from losing their Dex bonus to AC in ALL conditions EXCEPT when immobilized that is probably how the discription would have been stated...

    UPDATE: Uncanny Dodge vs. Feint

I don't even understand this argument. The Uncanny Dodge description gives three very specific situations in which the character retains their Dex bonus to AC, despit being in a situation in which they would normally lose it; when flat-footed, when struck by an invisable attacker and when...

    Dragon #311 and Bards Q

My issue is at home but I thought several of these PrC's were very cool and for most of them the bard had to give up very little to enter the class. All of them were only 5 lvl PrC's though, so you can't really make a whole career out of any of them. I would give some specifics on the classes...

Need advice on ending a campaign(my players stay out)

Questions: What level are the characters? In the next 'generation' of your world are you going to be simply moving forward in time? If the PC are powerful enough for it to make sence, allow them to do something truly great and historic, end the campaign on a big climax, and have them be...
