Who Plan to Buy the LoTR Special Edition DVD trilogy boxed set?

I too have been waiting for all three to come out before I bought them, so I'll definitely be getting this. Or more properly, tell my fiancé that I want it for Christmas. :p

    What's your costume?

I went as Dream from the Sandman comics. It worked pretty well considering that it was in honesty a black sheet, a spiky black wig, and gothic face paint. Oh and I managed to get my hands on a fake crow and attach it to my shoulder (was cool, but he kept trying to fall off). And then I went...

AD&D second edition: Why be hatin'?

You won't hear any 2e hate from me. But I'm different from many of the other mentions on this thread: I never played in 1e. To me 2nd edition was the first version of D&D I ever played, and really the first RPG I ever was exposed to. I cut my teeth on 2e (including all of the Player's Option...

AAAARRGGGHHH!!! (Or "Enough with the trilogies already!!!")

I was impressed with "The War of the Flowers" by Tad Williams. Especially considering that his "Otherland" series was four books long, and that "Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn" should have been four books long. But "War of the Flowers" is a complete work all by itself, and I really enjoyed it.

    The Common Commoner

But Barsoomcore doesn't the Alignment-based cleric option take care of the "false deity" problem? I mean, what if I'm a cleric that really believes in a god of purity and goodness, which in fact, does not exist? Wouldn't I then be worshipping Good (as in the alignment), if in a very unusual...

    Vampire The Masquerade D20?

I'm a big fan of the setting of the World of Darkness, but I never could get into the game mechanics (I don't like rolling multiple dice for success rolls). Recently, I've really gotten into Mutants & Masterminds, and discovered that it can be used really easily to build characters from WoD...

    Star wars SRD

Actually, to my understanding d20 Future is more of a tool-kit for playing in any sci-fi setting. It will probably have rules in it that can be used in both a near future and a space opera, as the DM needs.

Hide in shadows/Hide in Plain sight

One of my players had the Hide In Plain Sight ability and I basically treat it as a invisibility-like effect. His entire character concept revolves around his ability to sneak around, and compared to the power level of his fellow characters (a twinked-out paladin and druid), he's actually on...

Colin McComb's disowning of PHBR8 The Complete Book of Elves?

Any discussion of the Complete Book of Elves fills me with both wistfulness and guilty sorrow. I got myself into AD&D2e: there was no one to teach me. I discovered its existence shortly after reading the Lord of the Rings, and collected the Monster Manual, Dungeon Master's Guide, and Player's...

How do your Gods get Power?

I run a Forgotten Realms game where there are no gods. Or rather, religion there is exactly the same as it is in reality: completely based upon faith. Clerics believe that they gain their magic from their gods, and nobody can really tell them that they can't, but nobody's actually been able to...

How Often Does Your Group Level?

My group levels every three adventures like clockwork. When I set up the game, I just did away with several administrative functions of the game, principly Experience Points. I asked the players when the game began how long they felt was best at each level, and we reached a compromise rate...

    a question of balance

I voted for "most important" simply because my group WILL NOT have fun if someone feels like they can't contribute. Several of my players are extremely competitive and are always fearful that one of the other players has a character that is "more powerful than there's." Honestly, it’s enough...

    Pouncing Tiger - Dead Dragon

Actually, the Ride-By Attack feat says that "you" (the character with the feat) may charge and then attack and then move again. It doesn't say that your mount may do so as well. I think I would rule that if the mount attacked at the end of the charge, that it could not move again, since that...

What do you do with Favored Classes?

I just give them a bonus feat. It hasn't affected the game balance at all IMC and my players are always looking for a way to get an extra feat.

    Pacing campaigns, and television seasons

Unfortunately, I could have used this advice last week. I don't really use the whole "season" approach, but my group also took a break over Christmas. When we finally got back together again last Monday I didn't have time to prepare a good game, and so just threw something together at the last...

    Monsters as characters....Anyone?

One of my players is an 8th-level ghaele eladrin. I messed with its abilities a bit to make it more of a bard/mage instead of a fighter/cleric, and so far it's working out really well. The group is predominantly a bunch of combat-types, so she's really enjoying being the contracting character...

What day(s) of the week do you game?

We game on Mondays from about 6 (when I get off work) until 10 (when one of my players goes to work). I've discovered that it was impossible to schedule the game on the weekends, since no one wanted to commit. I've had three different gaming groups since I started college and none of them...

    Sneak VS. Perception?

IMC I've just created the Observe and Stealth skills, which replace the (IMO) somewhat redundant aspects of the Hide/Move Silently and Listen/Spot skills. My players have never had any problem with it, and they appreciate the ability to put the skill points elsewhere.

What D&D cliches are you sick of?

Black cloaked people. The sad thing is that since I'm the DM I'm responsible for all of them. Necromancers, cultists, assassins, demons, dark elves...they all wore black cloaks. After several campaign settings were the main bad guy (or at least the villain of the week) always wore a black...
