Every six months, which works out to every 10-12 sessions of four hours each.
Piratecat, was that true at the low levels too? You group is around 20th level now, and characters have lots they can do at that level. I could see many game sessions at one level there. But at the lower levels, with the limited resources and abilities of such characters, I'd think waiting so long to level would get frustrating and boring.

Recently (between levels 5-10), I've been levelling them up every 4 sessions. I was planning to keep it at this speed till they hit 10th and then slow it down to once every 5-6 and then 7-8 sessions. Except that I TPKed them as they hit 10th. There goes that plan!

My group levels every three adventures like clockwork. When I set up the game, I just did away with several administrative functions of the game, principly Experience Points. I asked the players when the game began how long they felt was best at each level, and we reached a compromise rate that we have now (naturally, there's always someone that wants to level every time). Although there are times I wish that the advancement were slower, I know that there are players that want to gain new powerz all the time as well. So it all works out: we've been playing steadily from the starting level of 2 to the current level of 10 with no signs of slowing down.

the current group i'm playing in levels too damn fast.

we've levelled twice in 2 days of adventuring.

i prefer (and this is how i refereed) to gain 1 level after ~900hours roleplay.

3-4hr/session; 5 sessions/week; 50 weeks/year; for 10+ years.

I said every three weeks, but that's only partially true. When I start characters at 1st level, I like to really speed through leveling up. I find 1st level a little drab when starting a story. My players are currently 3rd level now, very close to 4th. Once I get them there experience gain will slowly greatly. and be much more standardized according to the DMG and the "4-encounters per level" thing.

But again, I like to free-form a lot of experience, so it could fluxuate anywhere from 3 to 7 encounters, depending on what I need to do in the campaign itself.

I couldn't really pick an option. My regular group gets together once every 3 months to play and we make a day of it. So roughly 14 hours of play will level up the party (I'm still surprised that we actually sit for 14 hours). At lower levels the group may level up twice in one day.

Sadly, the poll won't be telling anyone anything, since there is no frame of reference for how often people actually have game sessions... but it's sure fun to click on the poll buttons anyways!

We level about once every 3 months, which equates to about 6 sessions (we play bi-weekly) of 8 hours each. So, a level every 48 hours of play.

This is all a wild estimation.

We place 2/month for about 3 hours each. We've been in this campaign for about 17 months and they are 8th/9th level. Levels have been coming slower and slower tho and this will continue. My hope when I started this game was to have a 4-5 year game and end somewhere in the mid-to-high teens for levels.

We play about every 3 - 4 weeks, and raise every four months or so. Currently most of the party is 6th level, almost 7th. For the past few levels, we've been averageing 5 sessions between raises. But the first few levels went real quick, and skew the average to be once per 3.5 sessions overall.
