Why is that the fighter, the wizard, the rogue, and the cleric can satisfy many, many different archetypes yet the ranger must be placed into a limited niche?

I've always thought that the favored enemy ability was fairly weak since it requires the DM to supply the appropriate enemy to be of any use, and it is rapidly outpaced by other classes' ability (+4 to hit giants compared to a rogue's 8d6 sneak attack, for example). I'd favor a bonus that went...

But it's not a joke to a lot of folks. Maybe just to you. The poll only shows your own bias. You seem to think of the ranger just in light of the weapons he uses, or his use of magical spells. That's a very narrow archetype.

Since I doubt they'll put Reaper, GW, or Rackham out of business, I'm perfectly fine with randomized, pre-painted minis. I won't buy them....but I'm fine with other people doing it. :D

My vote is for other. The ranger is a wilderness scout who can track down enemies and fight them. Their weapon choice is irrelevant. Their use of magical abilities (or not) is irrelevant. All IMO.

I wouldn't mind hearing your reasoning about why the PrC is balanced a bit more. I don't think you'd be hiring Sean Reynolds or Monte Cook based on their answers. ;)

I think it definitely matters. If a number of PrCs or classes work perfectly well for levels 1 thru 20, but then begin to break down at levels 21+, this is more indicative of a problem with the rules at later levels and needs to be rethought. Epic Rules 3.5 coming at ya next year, possibly...

I thought it wasn't half bad either. I haven't read the books, though I did check them out on Amazon. Different characters except for a few, but basically the same premise.

Elmore's artwork is just classic, IMO. Lockwood is very good, yet also seems to be more comic book in presentation. Similar style to Todd McFarlane or Joe Quesada. Personally, I prefer Elmore's style.

I don't care about originality in the ruleset. I expect the DM to provide the originality and the imagination in the game. What I do care about are solid rules and ongoing support. Not too many game systems have that.
