    Developer's Roundtable: Mystic Theurge

You could also use Sean Reynolds fractional spellcasting table (posted on his website). For each level in a spellcasting class a character takes, he could gain a half-level in his other class. It seems like it comes out pretty close to the Mystic Theurge...a 10/10 Cleric/Wizard would have...

    The ranger is...

Why is that the fighter, the wizard, the rogue, and the cleric can satisfy many, many different archetypes yet the ranger must be placed into a limited niche?
  3. Q

    The ranger is...

I've always thought that the favored enemy ability was fairly weak since it requires the DM to supply the appropriate enemy to be of any use, and it is rapidly outpaced by other classes' ability (+4 to hit giants compared to a rogue's 8d6 sneak attack, for example). I'd favor a bonus that went...

    The ranger is...

Wow, thanks for the hint. I'm glad to know that there is a RIGHT answer.

    The ranger is...

But it's not a joke to a lot of folks. Maybe just to you. The poll only shows your own bias. You seem to think of the ranger just in light of the weapons he uses, or his use of magical spells. That's a very narrow archetype.

    D&D Miniatures

Since I doubt they'll put Reaper, GW, or Rackham out of business, I'm perfectly fine with randomized, pre-painted minis. I won't buy them....but I'm fine with other people doing it. :D
  7. Q

    The ranger is...

My vote is for other. The ranger is a wilderness scout who can track down enemies and fight them. Their weapon choice is irrelevant. Their use of magical abilities (or not) is irrelevant. All IMO.

Do you find the Mystic Theurge overpowered?

I wouldn't mind hearing your reasoning about why the PrC is balanced a bit more. I don't think you'd be hiring Sean Reynolds or Monte Cook based on their answers. ;)
  9. Q

Do you find the Mystic Theurge overpowered?

I think it definitely matters. If a number of PrCs or classes work perfectly well for levels 1 thru 20, but then begin to break down at levels 21+, this is more indicative of a problem with the rules at later levels and needs to be rethought. Epic Rules 3.5 coming at ya next year, possibly...

Do you find the Mystic Theurge overpowered?

I'm not sure if this is a problem with the Mystic Theurge or the Epic Level rules, however.

River World (eventually spoilers as things happen)

I thought it wasn't half bad either. I haven't read the books, though I did check them out on Amazon. Different characters except for a few, but basically the same premise.

    100+ Crazy Character Concepts!

    55. Sir Phillip the Phlegmy - paladin with a real poor constitution score. Has had the same head cold for the past 4 years and can't seem to shake it. Always miserable. Hates it when wizards cast Contagion...

    Half-orc revisions

All hail the Blackguard!! As for Half-elves....they don't exist. They're just a myth. I mean, really....have you seen one played at a gaming table?

Vote for your Favorite D&D Artist [World Championship Edition] LOCKWOOD vs. ELMORE!!!

Elmore's artwork is just classic, IMO. Lockwood is very good, yet also seems to be more comic book in presentation. Similar style to Todd McFarlane or Joe Quesada. Personally, I prefer Elmore's style.

    3rd edition promotes the imagination...

I don't care about originality in the ruleset. I expect the DM to provide the originality and the imagination in the game. What I do care about are solid rules and ongoing support. Not too many game systems have that.

What the heck about the Realms is Forgotten anyway?

I used to know the answer to this question but I forgot.

    Buying/bought any of the following?

I may buy a couple of them, but for right now, I'm waiting for the revision books to come out. Perhaps after that...

    [FR] Campaign Setting interpretation diatribe

I compare FR to Ravenloft in some ways. Every mythology, nation, or theme is represented somewhere on Faerun, and they don't always blend together very well, IMO. It's actually because of the hodgepodge of city-states, wilderness, and very advanced and powerful nations that I find it a little...

    [FR] Campaign Setting interpretation diatribe

It could be presentation, this is true. For me, one of the best ideas in the setting is the Fall of Netheril and the return of the Shadovar. Combined with the supplemental material on WotC's website, that's the cornerstone of a great campaign. But herein is the weird part: Now I want to...
