monks . . . we don't need no stinking monks

Typically, I think of martial artist as the unarmed fighter using a fighting style such as tae kwon do, judo, karate, etc. Basically, I associate it with an Asian setting. In a medieval milieu (European medieval), the only things I can really think of would be boxing or wrestling. And martial...

Dwarven Battleragers: my 3e pet peeve

Every description that I've read of the battlerager also portrayed them as being on the very fringes of dwarven society, and normal dwarves certainly did not associate with them. I think the Barbarian class is a natural for a battlerager. The problem with most of the PrC's that I see for...

monks . . . we don't need no stinking monks

So...a monk won't fit your medieval flavor campaign setting, but a martial artist will?

Thanks, guys, you've ruined Haste for the rest of us.

Wow, very cool spreadsheet, Frisbeet! The nice thing about this is you can also figure out how much damage that fighter will be taking in return over the course of a round. If the fighter is up against an opponent whose abilities are comparable, it essentially becomes a fight of attrition.

    Am i reading this correctly?

Ok, in the "real" world, this would be impossible because the human body isn't built to run that fast (muscle damage, problems with friction, etc.) But since D&D nowhere resembles the real world, we'll just say that it's possible, and leave it at that. I mean, if you accept magic, and dragons...

    Monk Revisions

Absolutely! It would allow for greater variety in the class, allowing PCs and DMs alike to come up with different monastic orders with different abilities. The trick is you still need to make the abilities worthwhile. For example, I don't see many people taking Deflect Arrows or Purity of...

Perhaps, but it also depends on how many battles you can expect to be in before resting and regaining spells. In my experience, the wizard is the first one in the group to suggest that the party might be overextending itself (Uh, guys....I'm outta fireballs). I'm not convinced that the...

Improved Sneak Attack: good, bad or broken?

Heck, no. Rogues seem to manage getting multiple sneak attacks a round (due to AoOs, feints, various feats, flat-footedness), and when you add in other modifiers like magic items, spell effects, strength, and the like, rogues are doing exceptional damage as is. I would never allow it.

In the Misc. section on Reynolds' website, he has articles where he gives his opinion of various feats, spells, classes, etc. The one in particular that I mentioned is at http://www.seankreynolds.com/rpgfiles/misc/PH_opinions_feats.html

D&D 3E/3.5 Playing in a DND3E game with no magic items

Well, low magic should mean low magic across the board. If you can't have magic items, then the opponents you face should be scaled to take this into account. No DR 20/+2 demons unless you have a way to reasonably fight such a demon. If your DM does this however, then I don't really see the...

Thanks, guys, you've ruined Haste for the rest of us.

I agree. I would've said drop Quicken Spell down to only +2 level, but then it would negate the utility of Empower Spell. I also like Sean Reynolds argument that none of these metamagic feats should actually be feats. They should be class abilities for Wizards. The cost of using a metamagic...

Thanks, guys, you've ruined Haste for the rest of us.

Assuming you have access to Blink (via a ring or a wand, etc), even if you're comparing Blink to the current Haste, your reasoning has you picking Blink every time. Very little will change in Haste from the non-wizard's standpoint. What many seem to be arguing is that the new Haste is not...

    Why I hate D&D 3.5

I've heard this so much, you'd think it's gospel. However, I don't see this and think it's more a fearful gut reaction rather than truth. How will 3.5 invalidate what has been printed previously? Explain. (Edited for really bad spelling)

    Diseases

Do you want to just assign a basic percentage chance? Say 20% that a given town they walk into will have a disease spreading though it doesn't necessarily have to be an epidemic. If the town does have an area of disease, chances are it's spread around. Any tavern or inn that the PC's go into...
