(Self-?) Mutilation of your own characters

I'm currently playing a half-elven rogue in a world where half-breeds are pretty well scorned. He took a pair of shears and cropped off the points of his ears so he can better pass for a human.

    Ahoy me maties!

Some other books I might suggest: Freeport stuff - a very pirate-ish setting. Swashbuckling Adventures - got lots of good stuff for playing a low-magic, renaissance-era pirates and swashbucklers game.

    [3.5] Archers nerfed! Meleers/Spellcasters rejoice!

Quick, Sidekick! Get my arrows for fighting vegan demons with a vulnerability to bratwurst! <g>

    [3.5] Archers nerfed! Meleers/Spellcasters rejoice!

Actually, what I would like to see are bow enchantments that impart special qualities (like magic, adamantine, and so on) on missiles that it launches.

    [3.5] Archers nerfed! Meleers/Spellcasters rejoice!

::sigh:: As much as I thought the stacking of bow and arrow enhancement bonuses was incredibly cheesy, I think the new rules will lead to some really, really stupid moments as you have archers carrying around hundreds upon hundreds of arrows of different types so they can actually hurt things...

    From Stone to Steel

IMO, this is what the Arms & Equipment Guide should have been. This is the best-researched equipment book I've seen since GURPS: Low Tech. It's a great tool for GM's who are designing their campaigns because it provides historical contexts for the use of different weapons. Some of the rules...

    Super Powers in Fantasy RPGing

I've done something like this in my Oathbound campaign that is sort of a takeoff from an old 2nd Ed Planescape campaign that featured characters who developed the ability to wield what amounted to super powers (incredible speed, flight, teleportation, shooting energy). More anime than...

    Cheap alternatives to Dwarven Forge

Also useful, and damn good looking, are Wizkids' Mageknight: Dungeon and Mageknight: Castle sets. Check 'em out.

I am really unlucky (or Enworld martial artists help me part 2)...

In many circumstances, I really think that this is the kind of thing that you can only learn by yourself. We're all roleplayers here. We should be familiar with the idea of imagining encounters. I believe that the ability to use martial arts to protect yourself when you really have to fight...

    Hollywood Directors become Dungeon Masters!

Hmmm... here are some of my personal favorites lately: 1. The Wachowski Brothers. Philosophy, pacing, and incredible talent for storytelling action. 2. Ang Lee. He is one of the most versatile directors I've seen and has a great eye for conflict, both internal and external, which really drives...

I am really unlucky (or Enworld martial artists help me part 2)...

I would add something to your second statement, Drak, and this, I think applies to any martial arts school. Your instructor and your dedication is very important. But you should also never forget that a huge part of the "effectiveness" of any martial art in a life-or-death situation is mental...

    [OT] Nigel Findley In Memoriam

Re: Re: Re: [OT] In Memoriam Not to mention a pretty good chunk of something called Shadowrun and one of my favorites: GURPS: Illuminati.

    [OT] Nigel Findley In Memoriam

The gaming industry lost a lot when he passed away. Findley was one of the best.

    Vampires don't scare me anymore.

You *should* be afraid of vampires, if they're played right. The thing to remember is that a vampire is only slightly scarier than the base creature. So if your vampire is just some schmuck that got bit, then no, he won't be very nasty. If the vampire has some class levels, on the other hand...

How many total stat points does your character have?

Here's the staline for my current character, a human child sorceror. Str: 6 Dex: 12 Con: 11 Int: 14 Wis: 10 Cha: 18

    Does the Monk class stink?

Monk's don't suck. By and large, they're not going to make a super-effective front-liner like a fighter, paladin, or barbarian. That being said, they tend to be more mobile than rangers and hit harder than rogues. For the most part, the others are right. Monks are generally not stand-up...

Dragonlance Covers (Warning - Big Images)

What, no Draconians?! J/K - the covers look fantastic. Though I do hope that the Dracos ala Doom Brigade and sequels will be available in the game.

EN Worlders in Chicago, Sunday Night Recap

Curt and Joe - never fear. As Mark said - there's always game day! <g> Hal - 600, in one weekend? Not bad. Heh. Somewhere in there is one from me with the stuff I had sent to Doug. Just a quick question - when *is* the next game day anyhow? Jim

EN Worlders in Chicago, Sunday Night Recap

Yeah - Spirit Away is a great movie. And full of adventure ideas for a BESM or BESM d20 (when it finally comes out) game I'm cooking up. Anyway - we missed ya. We gotta do it again sometime.

Gay men or women who play D&D

I have a fairly large group that does have a fair share of gay and bisexual players. Some of them do play gay characters, others don't.
