    Amazon Orphans unite!

I'm about as pleased as I could be without having the books on my doorstep. They shipped this morning. :)

Jonathan Tweet advices: let the players peek behind the screen

Yeah, I agree with you. There's nothing wrong with the players being given some explicit details of their opponents AC/HP/etc. especially when they are getting a feel for a new game system, and 4e *is a NEW game system. OTOH, I also want to allow the players to get into and stay in character...

    Amazon shipped my books

My order has just gone to "Shipping Soon" Yeah! Still a June 10th delivery date, though.

    Amazon shipped my books

Yeah, same here: pre-ordered in March, Amazon Prime member, Items not shipped yet, and expected arrival date of June 10th. . . and it won't surprise me if that slips to the 11th, 12th, or 13th...unfortunately. It appears that Amazon has a very, very, large queue for all the 4e books. They are...

PVP/Penny Arcade 4E Podcast from WotC

Yeah, I agree, they should do more of these. I got a kick out of listening these guys. When's the next episode coming out? :)

    We're back to AD&D1

Well, IMO, the less rules they have...period...is probably the right way to go. Yes, yes, I know we have to have some rules, but just a few go a long way. I think, for me anyway, rules mostly get the way of roleplaying.

    We're back to AD&D1

Well, I never played AD&D, 1e or 2e. I didn't like the complexity then, even less now. I played/DM'ed BD&D (the BEM of BEMCI, I guess) for years and years, stopped for even longer, and then 3e came out. Too many rules, too many fiddly bits for me, but the simple basic mechanic let me ignore a...

    D&D 4E Will 4e kill PbP D&D?

No, I don't think so. The virtual table top from DnD Insider requires that the DM and all of the players be online and "at the gametable" at the same time. With PBP, whether forum or email based, the players and DM can be online at different times of the day to leave posts. I run a PBEM game...

    D&D 4E Sandbox game: should I 4e?

I was *hoping* that the game mentioned was going to run online as well. Assuming WyzardWhately is serious about wanting to play, then I can say that any DM that would like to run a sandbox similar to the Western Marches online could count on at least *TWO* people interested...I'd *jump* at a...

Blog post on the feel of D&D (marmell, reynolds et all)

Okay, you're crazy! ;) But so am I...because I agree with you. "Wait and see" is where I'm at until I have the books in my hands. Sure, I'm somewhat worried about 4e not being what I want it to be, but at this point...having no frame of reference but what I have gleaned online...who's to say...

Warlord Player's job is to tell other players what to do??

Yeah, the Wizard in one of the games I'm running did that a while back, and it worked very well...In Game...but In Character the PC's have never forgiven her. Ever since, the PC's have groused and kidded her about it, and IC, they are serious about not turning their backs on her for fear she'll...

Warlord Player's job is to tell other players what to do??

Maybe, you'd think and maybe they should, but my players just *don't*. They don't talk beforehand as a team. They don't plan out what all the characters are going to do. They will have to make a major change in how they play if they need to coordinate before each round OOC, before they take...

Warlord Player's job is to tell other players what to do??

It's fine if that's your *style* of play, but it is a lot more "metagamy" than is the style my groups use. We try to stay in character and "in the game" as much as possible. All this out of game chatter about what everyone is going to do next turn, bonuses and powers is directly opposite to...

Chainmail Bikinis & other Cheesecake art in the 4th Edition Core Books.

I liked almost all the illustrations in that edition of the book. Frankly, that's the only game illustration that really made me turn pages to find next one. It wasn't the cheese cake, it was that the illustrations were *good*...or at least to my taste.

Bing! That's just what I was thinking.

From the WotC Boards: Mearls on 'Aggro'

I see your point, but...me scratches head...in a game with humans on both side, surely that should all be a matter of roleplaying during the combat rather than hard and fast rules. If the bodyguard can stay between the PC and the VINPC, then the PC will have to fight his way through, over, past...

    Description of class roles

Ah! But a Ranger has a lot of "baggage" that he carries around in addition to being able to shoot arrows very effectively. Maybe I don't want those Ranger abilities/feats/skills/talents/whatever, but I want this PC to be a very effective archer who also wears plate and, on occasion, stands...

    Description of class roles

Same here! I've been playing/DMing since '74 and those specific terms were new to me when all this 4e stuff started coming out. I scratch me head over it, too. Take the "fighter"...well, most of them are melee types and calling them "tanks" or more appropriately "shield walls" makes sense, but...

    CSX and Windows Vista

Chris, have you resolved your Windows Vista problems yet? I've moved to Vista on my primary system and can't consider your product if it won't run. If CSX won't, then how about an idea of when CS2 might come out and whether it will be Vista compatable or not?

    Alternate Wizard Spell Rules.

Have you done anything more with this idea? I was thinking about something very similar, and thought I'd post it in this thread. Each spell *is* a skill, a class skill for Magic Users, cross-class for certain other classes (Bard, maybe) and off-limits for still others (Fighter). The Magic...
