    next week, 3 years later...

We did it, but it didn't work for me as a player. It felt like a power-up I didn't deserve. The problem might have been because the DM jumped us about 8 levels. But some of it was because he didn't think it through enough. I was playing a half-orc. Jumping ahead 15 years is a big deal for...

    What's a gamer to do?

Awesome. It's like the 80s all over again. I love it. Bummer about the hard times. Here's a quick priority list: 1) Dragon or Dungeon subscription 2) d20 Modern 3) A Magic Medival Society: Western Europe At this point stop and think about if you want to go to 3.5 or not. That'll affect...

Warduke is coming to Dungeon #105

This makes me happier than Barsoomcore's gaming stewardreses. Is that wrong?

FR, GH, AU - character power levels

There are definately different power levels between settings. AU is a little trickier because a 1st level AU character p0wnz a 1st level core rules character, but the core character will typically be tougher at 20th level (when the AU guy will still be 19!) Which is why I'd like it if game...

    I did it, but I'd like a cookie. I think that's fair.

    How long until D&D 3.7e?

I'm beta testing it now. It isn't bad and there are a lot of really cool ideas and concepts. Although I'm a little unclear why gnomes now have barbarian as a preferred class and I don't see why all summon spells need a special enchanted or "magic" card to be cast. . . . . (if you just...

    Your best "one shot" experience.

It was using the old "Principalites of Glantri" book. I had the players all 8th level wizards, just a few exp from getting to 9th. I then made them the victims of a practical joke by the alchemists. Their job was to get the alchemists back while still getting to the school in time to pass...

Best RPG books any system, any publisher

Delta Green - Chaosium - possibly the single best RPG setting/campaign book period. It's for "Call of Cuthullu". The nitty-gritty is coverd, such as what gear agents carry into the field. The purpose of the campaign is convyed (hold off the dark gods, even if only for a day). And the...

what would you expect to see in a gnomish village? - (My players STAY OUT!)

Gnecromancers. . . . . And for the non-wiseguy answer: Few torches (low light vision r0x0r) Music everywhere (Gnomes have bard as a favored class and their innate magic would enable them to have music in the background) Small vegatable bins (they can talk to burrowing mammals, the kind...

Your favorite "villain" race and why?

Orcs! Go Green! I typically give them a level or two of barbarian when the party gets stronger, but Cleric and Druid work out nicely as well, as does Adept. Adept is especially nasty. Nothing says "ouch" like an orc in chainmail tossing around lightning bolts.

    Is the 3.5e Ranger yours?

I think its safe to say the Woodsman from Wheel of Time RPG is my idea of a ragner. That said, I thought the 3.0 ranger was perfectly fine and the 3.5 ranger is great. And note: I'm a guy who doesn't like the WoT game.

    FUDGE mechanics, your thoughts?

PROS: easy free gives me an excuse to buy "fudge dice" CONS: vague skill system vague pretty much everything little support (how could there be?) The vaguness bothers me because I play in a group that's half roleplayers and half powergamers. Both groups need to know what they're getting...

What constitutes a good vs bad review?

It depends. I tend to read staff reviews and skim fan reviews. A staff reviewer reads a book because the editor said to do it. A fan buys the book and reads it because he wants to. So there tends to be less bias in the staff review. But, much more importantly, I can read a dozen staff...

how would your halfling spend his 5000 gp?

A glove of storing. You'll need to "toggle" that bow on and off in your hand if you are going to be casting spells.
