    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] Compiled CR changes (MM)?

You're not going to get an answer on the subject. It's a lot like the "what are all the spell changes in 3.5?" threads, the topic is just too large an area of inquiry. I'm certainly not interested in running through several hundred monsters just to compare CR's. The 3.5 SRD is up & online, and...

    Shuriken

plus, since they're treated as thrown weapons for all other purposes, you add your strength bonus to the damage! Yes, you too can create a 2nd edition flashback with your 18 strength Monk using Flurry of Blows to throw two shuriken for more average damage than a longsword. (2d2+8!)

Things that have bugged you since 1E

Alignment. Not that they had it, but that they have it as a game mechanic, with interactions of spells, magic items & artifacts, yet when it comes time to define what makes a character good or evil, they chicken out with the "Alignment is not a straight-jacket" excuse. If alignment is all a...

Why hasn't anyone mentioned this yet? (3.5)

A few gripes If you want a Bead of Karma from a Strand of Prayer Beads, it costs 20,000 gp. Or 0, depending on which strand you get it from... The "animated" shield enhancement is unchanged, which means it still sucks to try & fight with weapon & shield, since you can use a two-handed weapon...

What is the new CR on this advanced Howler?

Feat Choices With only two feats, I'd consider Improved Critical for the Quills (more attacks means more rolls) and Improved Natural Attack on the Bite.

    1001 Magic Items Nobody Wants

Love it... The snackraficial knife - good for opening bags of chips... What, did you miss #361 - Manuel of Bodily Health? I left out "Manuel of Quickness in Action" because of the naughtier connotations... And, so I'm still contributing to the list: 514. Neverburning torch. Too light for a...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Npc Cr

This is a simple question really. What is the CR of a 6th level Orc Warrior? Is it: a.) "6, +1 per level" b.) "5, because the first level of warrior is only worth 1/2 CR, or they can trade in their 1 HD for a level of warrior" c.) "3, because all NPC classes only add +1/2 CR per level" Next...

    D&D 3E/3.5 3.5 Errata Reporting

Strand of Prayer Beads (standard) Price is listed at 25,800. By math, either the Bead of Karma is free, or the price should be 45,800.

    Seeking a balanced Disjunction variant

I'm toying with changing the Disjunction spell. Not the whole thing, just how magic items are affected. As it stands now, each item rolls a save. Failure means the item is rendered nonmagical, (not 'broken', which is 1/2 cost to re-enhance, but totally ruined) and success means no effect...

    1001 Magic Items Nobody Wants

A few classics (apologies to Warner Brothers...) 397. Invisible Ring. (No, not a Ring of Invisibility, just an invisibile ring. That's it. That's all.) 398. Rod of Disintigrating. (Again, not a Rod of disintigration...) 399. Armor of Tortise-fication. ("Turtle! Turtle!")

I don't know if this is funny, scary, or sad...

transcendantly stupid... This is the kind of thing that rates up their with SenZar & F.A.T.A.L. for pure, raw rules wreckage. Every few lines, I think I've seen a terrible mechanic. And yet, just a few lines later, I see something worse... And it's not just the idoitic language or the...

    D&D 3E/3.5 [3.5] They didn't fix SR

Don't compare SR & DR You can still hurt things with SR. In fact, if you look at the values of various monster's SR as compared with their Challenge rating, you'll see an interesting relationship... First, since you insist on comparing apples to oranges, lets' look at monster DR & CR. Low CR...

Statistically Proving Bad Luck (Help Appreciated)

The illusions of probability I have some bad news for you, friend. Actually, bad news both ways... The first piece of bad news is that you can conduct statistical analysis on a sample of practically any size. In fact, once your sample size exceeds 30, it becomes pretty routine to anyone who...

Is it harder to be a DM in a high-level campaign?

Good Lord yes it's harder! I really hope I'm replyin to the 'high-level campaign' thread and not posting a new message, since the subject line looks too much like some of the spam emails I've been getting... Yes, it's tougher to DM a high-level game. 1.) Adventure planning is made more...

    Bonuses to Turning level

Turning is just a bad mechanic in general... The problem with the turning mechanic is that it's all or nothing. At low levels, either an undead is either turned (which translates to "fleeing until he can sneak back up on you later") or rebuked (which translates into "let the rest of the party...

    Supplies for a New DM

Some type of map to track where people are in combat is really, really useful. The low-end solution is to simply buy a roll of butcher paper & use tokens or chits. I believe you can buy cardboard tokens of monsters by the pamphlet that have the right facing & scale. If you do use a battle map...
